What are the steps to care for a suspected spinal injury? (Walk through ALL STEPS beginning to end!)

What is 1) Identify possible spinal injury 2) Clear the pool with two long whistles and arms in an X overhead. 3) Ease in entry and approach guest. 4) Place guest in underarm vise grip. 5) Once secondary and the backboard arrives, primary will switch to overarm vise grip. 6) Secondary sinks backboard under the guest and start applying straps. 7) Secondary takes over SMR using squeeze-play. 8) Primary moves guest's arms down over secondary's arm. 9) Primary applies head blocks to guest. 10) Both lifeguards move guest to a safe area and extricate from the pool.

What are all the steps we will take in a major medical emergency?

Lifeguard activates EAP with appropriate whistle code and initiates the rescue. Off stand lifeguard or DS will fill in for lifeguard the left stand to activate EAP. Once active lifeguard makes the call for assistance, FD will call 911 and bring go bag to the scene. Instructors will get their students out of the water, grab roll sheets, and move kids to private showers. Responders apply PPE while one LG gives 2 ventilations and starts primary check. Once responders have PPE, they will take over care. Responders determine they type of BLS that will be needed and equipment that will be used. BLS will be performed until EMS arrives on scene and takes over. Simultaneously, DS or manager assigns roles to assist in the rescue. Escort families out of the facility using the back exit once swimmers have returned to their guardians. Follow up with EMS and file an incident report.

What are the steps we would take if there was a missing child?

Immediately let a manager know, make sure someone is with the guardian to reassure them. All available staff will search for the child and the bottom of the pool is scanned immediately. Search all rooms in the facility, if child is not found during first sweep music is stopped and an announcement is made that there is a missing child with a brief description of their appearance. Service at the front desk will be halted so more people can search and 911 will be called.
