Connect the IS to the nervous system?

Skin detects stimuli. Stimuli is processed by the NS.

200

The dermis has several items that live there.  List 1 function of any two structures here.

thermoregulation

reduce friction

fight bacteria

sensory perception

200

This structure is made of sheets of hardened keratinocytes in order to provide protection to a distal end

nails

Detection of stimuli includes what types of sensations

pain, pressure, touch, temperature

Can you connect the IS to the MS?

Arrector pili muscles make hair stand up to help trap the heat

Provide some protection to the muscles that lie under

This structure contains less dense levels of keratin which allows for flexibility.  It is also elongated, not as tightly packed and has differing levels of melanin.

Know why this is important

500

There are two ways the the skin regulates heat.  Describe 1 of them

Heat is transported to the skin's surface via the blood stream.  Sweat is produce in the dermis, and transferred to the skin.  Heat from the skin is transferred to the sweat.  Sweat evaporates.

Blood vessels constrict.  Heat is kept away from the surface, warming deeper structures.  Arrector pili muscles stand.

500

These structures are responsible for lubricating the skin against friction as well as having antibacterial assistance

sebaceous glands
