Using deer as the example population represented, explain the graph. Use vocabulary like population and limiting factor (graph on smartboard)
With plenty of resources and very few predators, the deer population increases over time, until finally there are too many deer in the area for the environment to support them. This occurs where the curved line representing the deer population crosses the horizontal line representing the carrying capacity. This is called overpopulation. The deer eat the plants too quickly for them to grow back. With less resources, some animals will move elsewhere, starve, or die from disease. Then the population quickly shrinks. This allows the resources in the environment to slowly return to normal.
