Horses improved the quality of life for people in this region as they were suddenly able to travel much faster across a greater distance. Horses also provided another way to pack supplies/pull wagons.

Describe the climate of this region.
The prairies are well-known for its fluctuating temperatures. In the winter, the prairies can experience periods of extreme cold. It is not uncommon for one week to be in the-20˚ to30˚ range, and the following week to be above-zero. The Interior Plains is known for having dry hot summer and very cold winters. Chinook winds are warm, dry winds that happen mostly in southern Alberta. They can raise the temperature on cold winter days and provide relief to people working outside. The Interior Plains is known for being a dry region.
