Why is an English Proficiency exam needed?

To assess our students will be able to successfully understand the material and read/write. This is to help ensure students are being set up to succeed in completing their degree.

Which 2 accrediting bodies does SNHU accept 3rd party international evaluations? 

National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) and Association of International Credential Evaluators (AICE).

A student with Indian citizenship who earned their Bachelors degree in India. 

They are international because the student's last academic credential is completed outside of the US/US territories.

How are English Proficiency Exemptions triggered?

Supporting documents are submitted to cocedocs@snhu.edu and are uploaded successfully to the student's checklist. Then an additional ESS request case is created requesting the exemption.

How do you dial out to an international phone number?

First identify the country code, Google can be used to determine it. Start a new call in the Engage tool. Change the country code from "+1" to the code you first looked up. Manually type or copy the student's phone number and select "dial" to initiate the call.

Are course-by-course evaluations required? 

Most programs do not require a course-by-course evaluation. When students do no provide this detailed of an evaluation they are not able to be considered for potential waivers or transfer credit.

A student from one of the US territories below who completed their Bachelors degree in their place of residency.

Puerto Rico, Guam, US Virgin Islands (St. Thomas, St. Croix, St. John), Northern Mariana Islands (Saipan, Tinian, Rota), and American Samoa (Tutuila, Ta'u, Ofu, Olosega, Rose Island, Swain Islands).

They are not international if their last completed academic credential was from one of the listed US territories. US territories are considered an extension of the US and are processed the same as domestic students.

What qualifies a student for an English Proficiency exemption? 

Proof of US citizenship demonstrated by an approved government-issued document, proof of a full academic year of high school in the US with passing grade in one year of standard English, or proof of a full year of postsecondary education in the US with a minimum of 24 transferrable semester hours or proof of a baccalaureate level taught in English.

Completed their Bachelors degree in Quebec, Canada. 

No. Quebec is the only Canadian province which is not exempt from the English Proficiency exam.

Can a Grad international student be AEP'd (when AEP is open)?

An international student can be considered for AEP admission if they have satisfied all of their international checklist items and the only missing items are domestic.

What are the approved government-issued documents that can be used to demonstrate US citizenship?

US passport, birth certificate which clearly shows US citizenship, consular report of birth or certification of birth abroad, certificate of citizenship, or naturalization certificate.

ACEI, ECE, IEE, Span Tran, WES, Scholaro, and Educational Perspective. This means evaluations sent via these portals offer the quickest delivery of documents to SNHU without the risk of being lost in the mail.

What are the requirements for third party evaluations?

The evaluation is completed by a NACES/AICE member, is based on official transcripts, sent to SNHU officially from the provider, a US degree equivalency is included in the evaluation report, and a US GPA equivalency is included in the report.

High school diploma or equivalency, post-secondary diploma, associates degree, bachelors degree, masters degree, and doctoral degree.

My student is from a country that participates in the Bologna process, are they exempt from the third-party evaluation?

No, as of January 2022 there is not an exemption for the Bologna process.

Campus international admission as visas often times have a residence requirement.

Do English Proficiency scores expire? If yes, how long do they last for? 

Yes, they are valid for 2 years. After 2 years a new proficiency test result will need to be provided.
