It's a big rejuvenation operation. This is probably one of the worst areas in Bristol, we want to improve it and revive the walls.
What is the goal of the project?

Most artists start out with a small design but there’s then 3 or 4 days of hard work to produce a full-size mural.
How long does it take for you to paint a mural?

It does look like very audacious vandalism but it is all entirely legal and the scale is startling.
Do people think it is vandalism or street art?

Some artists want to send a message or defend a cause but initially I started to paint because I liked to paint and it gave me an adrenalin rush. There was a thrill, there was a big thrill.
Why did you start to do graffiti and street art?

The walls were damaged by vandals. We had no money to paint so the local authorities kindly sent us artists so we could embellish this wall and fight vandalism.

Graffiti has often been seen as an act of vandalism in some places but if you look around this area of Bristol, the street artists have turned it into something thats really beautiful and part of the heritage.

For about 30 years now. I started showing my work in galleries and museums around the world in 1980.

The city has become one of the world’s capitals of street art with thousands of murals decorating houses, schools and even churches. It has become a tourist attraction.
