The Study of Life itself.
What is Biology?
The change of a living thing over time, usually in terms of increasing size or biological mass.
What is Growth?
Because they lack these, viruses are not considered technically alive by most scientists.
What are the Characteristics of Life?
What all life is made of.
What are Cells?
A short segment that encodes for a single trait. Think genetics.
What is a gene?
When Living things change into progressively different shapes or behaviros.
What is Development?
An individual comprised of complex structures that possesses the characteristics of Life.
What is an Organism?
What viruses need host cells for.
What is Reproduction?
Where cells come from.
What are other cells?
A biological molecule that stores and passes on hereditary traits.
What is DNA?
A change in an environment or in the internal environment of an organism.
What is a Stimulus?
The hierarchical arrangement of classifications by complexity; for example, organs make up an organ system, and then an organism.
What is Organization?
Viruses don't have this ability; when placed in an environment with food, they remain inert.
What is Metabolism?
A tiny structure inside a cell with a discreet job that makes life processes happen.
What is an Organelle?
When hereditary information from two organisms is combined to produce a new organism.
What is Sexual Reproduction?
The capture and use of energy; for example, by photosynthesis or digestion.
What is Metabolism?
A change in the genetic traits of a population over generations.
What is Evolution?
All viruses carry this and use it to attack host cells.
What is Genetic Material (DNA or RNA)?
The type of Reproduction cells make use of. It does not involve sexed pairs.
What is Asexual Reprduction?
What DNA stands for.
Deoxyribonucleic acid.
The ability and tendency of an Organism to maintain its internal environment against external pressures.
What is Homeostasis?
When modifications to an Organism's physique or behavior make it better suited to its environment.
What is Adaptation?
Also called a Capsid; it envelopes the genetic material of a virus.
What is a protein shell?
The most basic unit of Life. Nothing is smaller than it and still technically alive.
What is a cell?
A plant metaphor/diagram that explains the relations, differences, and lineages of all living things.
What is the Tree of Life?
