How you enter the classroom...
1. Double-check you have your materials
2. Enter quietly
3. Get your materials
4. Sit at your assigned seat
5. Yelling, horseplay, inappropriateness, and/or tardiness will NOT be accepted.
One of the most important items I need...
PENCIL! You would not go to work without your tools and expect to do well.
Assignment Sheets...
ALL assignments are done on Assignment Sheets (handed out or in the correct spot if you do not have one). Fill out the sheets properly with EVERY assigned problem. We go over the answers and turn assignments into the turn-in boxes at the front.
Each assignment is worth 0-2 points. We will self-correct using red pens and you will turn in your assignments for grading. If you earned 0 or 1 points, you can compete the assignment for full points.
Getting an F...
The only way you fail this class is if YOUR actions allow that to happen. If you do all the work, make all the corrections, the lowest grade you can get in this class is a B
The bell rang...
1. Be in your seat with your materials
2. Quiet, not having conversations with others about something other than math
3. Work on the warm up on the board - on a warm up paper (scratch, good to keep)
My binder...
1. Is a resource and a lifesaver - keep it organized
2. Was bought by me, so keep it nice
3. Can be taken out of the classroom but if you leave it elsewhere, you are responsible for keeping notes and assignment sheets.
Late work...
I allow late work to be turned in all the way until the end of the semester for full points. Do not wait to get those missing or incomplete items. After the semester ends, no work will be accepted.
Reviews...
Math is broken up into units. Each unit has a Review worth 0-2 points. You can make up any missed points.
Missing Class...
Missing class is the fastest way to falling behind, feeling lost, increasing anxiety, and hating this experience. Please show up to class as many days as you possibly can - I promise it will pay off.
Class is in session...
1. Paying attention
2. Raising our hand to ask and answer questions
3. Engaged and participating
4. Giving 100% effort all day, every day
My book...
Absences...
If you miss a day, your Assignment Sheet, if given out, will be in the Absent basket at the front (you can get it on your own).
Every week, I post the Weekly Agenda on Google Classroom - check this if you miss a day to see what we did and what you can work on at home.
Assessments (Tests)...
Each unit test is worth 8 points - 8 questions, each one point.
Math is...
Easy for some, tough for others. Everyone is on their own personal journey through math and does not care whether you are great or struggle with math. Work on improving your understanding and lifting others up.
Class is almost over...
1. Work until I tell you it is time to put away materials
2. Put away materials appropriately & neatly
3. Be in seat, filling out exit ticket
4. I dismiss only when the class is in their seats and silent
5. Place exit ticket in appropriate spot on way out
I will get...
1. Notes provided for each lesson. If you choose to use them is your choice
2. Assignment sheets - you get one for each assignment and will turn this in for points
3. Calculators for classroom use - not on all assignments
4. As much help as you want/need granted you put forth a honest effort
Office Visits...
Personal phone calls to home are not to happen during class time. Unless you are sick, need to take medication, or have a technology issue, you will not be allowed to go to the office or make phone calls home.
Correct x Reflects...
Any problems you get wrong on an assessment, you can correct them, just the problems that were not right, and write a brief reflection on each. You earn back half the points missed. Correct x Reflect forms must be filled out completely!
Effort is...
An expectation. I promise growth if you show up to class every day and give it your honest, 100% effort. If you take shortcuts and give anything less, your experience will suck!
The big rule...
RESPECT. We are here for math and only math. Keep all the extra drama out of this class and be respectful of one another.
Finally...
Be prepared with a pencil! Not a pen, not a marker, not a crayon, not chalk. We do math in pencil to erase our mistakes and redo problems.
Bathroom and water...
Get that figured out before class starts. Limited permission to leave the classroom will be granted. If you do get permission, sign out.
Retakes...
You can retake any assessment in hopes of earning full points. First you must fill out a Correct x Reflect on the first assessment, then ask for a Content Review Form and follow that process. Only then will I allow for a retake.
We all...
Learn different and understand things at different levels. Just because you did not get one thing does not mean you are doomed. Giving up is unacceptable in here. Failure is never bad unless you quit.
