When are MOST assignments due?

To prevent panic from submitting an assignment a bit after midnight, assignments will be due before class, meaning at 7:59 am. Therefore, if you see an assignment is due on a particular day, keep in mind it is due BEFORE CLASS not later in the day. Exceptions will be major assignment submissions (meaning final drafts of the 4 core essays).

200

Should I do the readings?

Yes. Absolutely. 100%. Ja. Sí. Oui.

I specifically cut down on the amount of readings they suggest, so please just do them, otherwise you're probably going to be lost.

200

What is a cover letter?

A short assignment that accompanies each major essay.

It has you look over the writing process from the previous weeks that led up to the submission of the final draft.

What is the "fresh start policy?"

If you end up not completing this semester of 1010 for any reason and need to re-enroll in a future semester, please sign up with a different instructor next time around. This "fresh start policy" will help alleviate the feeling of repeating the same course and will give you the benefit of being taught by a teacher with additional advice and perspectives on writing.

300

Where is Ms. Wilmot's office?

Hoyt 308

300

What is the late work policy?

Late assignments will be accepted up to 3 days past the due date. For each day late, 15% will be deducted from the final grade. I will grant an extension if you contact me at least two days before the assignment is due and with a valid reason. Said reason should be accompanied with an excuse note from the Dean of Students or with a piece of documentation.

300

How often should I check my announcements on Canvas?

Daily and for all your classes.

300

What are the due dates for ALL major assignments (including the Final Portfolio)?

Visual Analysis: Monday, February 23

Researched Argument: Wednesday, April 8

Rhetorical Storytelling Project: Wednesday, April 29

Final Portfolio: Saturday, May 9

300

Do I have to already be a "good" writer?

No! We're here to learn. There's no such thing as dumb questions, and there's always an opportunity to revise.

400

How will Ms. Wilmot primarily communicate with the class?

Announcements and the "Daily Due Dates" pages.

400

What is the attendance policy?

Attendance is required. 6 absences drop your grade by one letter, 9 means you fail the class.

Your engaged participation, then, is essential to your success in this course. Excessive tardiness, early departure, lack of preparation, or lack of participation can result in you being marked absent. If you miss class, you are still responsible for the information covered on that day and any assignments due upon your return.

400

What is a "Daily Due Dates" page?

It is a page that lists all the due dates for the week, outlines the homework and reading assignments to be completed, and details what we'll be doing in class. It's also where I upload the slides after the week is over, in case you need to reference them in later weeks.

400

What happens if I don't submit one of the essays?

You will not pass the course. All essays must have a final draft submitted, at least before the late policy deadline. You cannot revise something that was never graded.

400

What is the grade breakdown?

Attendance: 15%

Process and Participation: 35%

Final Portfolio: 50%

500

When are Ms. Wilmot's office hours?

9:00 am to 10:30 am, Mondays and Tuesdays

500

What is the device policy?

  • When you come into class, put away your devices. No phones or laptops. They can only be brought out when I specify that you need one or the other for a task. Once that task is done, laptops and phones need to be put away.
  • No earbuds can be used in class.
  • Notes will be handwritten. If you need an accommodation, speak with the University Disability Support Services. The email is udss@uwyo.edu, and the phone number is (307) 766-3298.

If you feel the need to record class, either to write notes later or generally reference for reminders, please let me know. I would also appreciate a specification on whether this would be a recurring thing (every class) or a one-time occurrence.

500

What should I do if I miss class?

Get an excuse letter from the Dean of Students and/or email Ms. Wilmot with a piece of documentation.

Also, if you are gone for a week or more, please directly communicate that with me, and I will work with you to get you caught up quickly and efficiently.

500

What is the Final Portfolio? What goes in it?

The Final Portfolio is the final assignment of the course and includes a revised RA, and either the revised VA or RSP. The revised RA is REQUIRED. You get to choose between the VA and RSP for the second essay.
