We keep all of your secrets UNLESS:

1.  You are being harmed or want to harm yourself.

2.  If someone else is being harmed.

3.  If you want to harm someone else.  

4.  You give us permission to tell.

How many years of college does it take to become a school counselor?

It depends on where you go to school, but it typically takes 6-8 years between undergraduate school and graduate school.   You will earn a Master's degree in Education as a school counselor.

Where are your school counselor's offices?

Ms. Dalke's office is located across from the gym and next to the health room.  Ms. Baumann's office is located next to the cafeteria.

There is a change in your family (death, divorce), conflict with a friend or classmate, bullying, feeling sad, friendships, having a hard time coping with anger or anxiety, etc.

Bullying, friendships, test taking strategies, being safe, making good choices, and careers, are some examples.

School Counselors do more than just work with students. Name two things that you think that a school counselor does in addition to working with kids.

We talk to Parents, problem solve with teachers, principals and other staff members, work on committees, run programs, and do other things behind the scenes to help support students!  We also have dance parties!

Ms. Dalke earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Western Washington University, and she earned her Master's degree at Prescott University.

A dog, who is an English Shepherd, named Rue.

How do you request to see one of your school counselors?

Ask your teacher for a counselor request ("Let's Talk") form to fill out or come to Ms. Dalke's door to get a "Let's Talk," form outside her door.  Fill out the form, and place it in Ms. Dalke's mailbox. Please include your first and last name, your teacher's name, the date, the size of your problem, and what you need help with.  *If it is an emergency, please tell your teacher you need to see us, and your teacher will contact us for you.*

We will expect you to be respectful, responsible, ready to listen, ready to learn, and to have open and inquiring minds.

Put your "Let's Talk," form in Ms. Dalke's mailbox. Ms. Dalke or Ms. Baumann monitor the mailbox and one of us will call you down within 2 days. *If it is an emergency, please tell your teacher you need to see us, and your teacher will contact us for you.*

Do we ever work with other school counselors?

Yes! We work with other counselors in the East Valley School District, as well as other counselors we know in the Spokane community.  We go to meetings with school counselors. School counselors not only help students successful, but they help each other be successful!

Can I ever eat lunch with one of the school counselors?

Yes you can!  Please sign up on the lunch buddy list outside of Ms. Dalke's office to have lunch with one of us.

Why did we become School Counselors?

We love working with kids, talking with kids, helping kids, encouraging kids, problem solving with kids, etc..

It varies. Sometimes we will meet with a whole class, small groups, or with one student at a time.
