This building, along with the Parthenon, is the only building in the world that has served three religions as a temple, church, and mosque over the course of history.
What is the Hagia Sophia?
Located in Istanbul, this building started out as a pagan temple in the Greek city of Byzantium. When the Eastern Orthodox Christians established their empire, they converted it into a church. When the Ottomans established their empire, they converted it into a mosque. And currently in the secular state of Turkey, it has been converted into a museum that is representative of all three religions that it has served.
