what does it mean to "conjugate" a verb?
to CHANGE the verb from its infinitive form (the original unconjugated version that means "TO ___" and ends in -ER / IR / RE) to a version that makes sense for a subject.
Ex : "I *to play* soccer" --> "I play soccer"

What are the steps to conjugate a regular -ER verb in the present tense?
1) start with the infinitive; drop the last 2 letters (ER)
2) add the verb ending that matches the subject
je: -e nous : -ons
tu: -es vous : -ez
il/elle: -e ils/ elles: -ent
