Types of mining
horizontal deposits very close to the surface often 0-50 meters deep
strip mining
used for deposits that are 100-300 meters deep, cannot be reached horizontally so a slanted tunnel is dug at an angle
Slope mining
used for seams in a mountain ridge, often involves the removal of 150-250 meters of elevation
Mountaintop removal
used for thick bodies near the surface, but can extend hundreds of meters down
Open pit mining
method used for deposits 500-3000 meters deep, a vertical shaft is sunk into the earth and they use a hoist system(A cage) to go up and down.
