Because the Bradleys (George and Helen) had a daughter named Emma who was mentally ill in a time when there was not much treatment for mental illness (1906-1931). George and Helen wanted to help other families and children that were mentally ill so they used their estate to create and fund Bradley hospital in honor of their daughter.
