Where is the most common place people eat popcorn?

At the movies!

Did you know that World War II was what cemented the relationship between movie theaters and popcorn. During WWII, sugar was rationed. It resulted in less candy being manufactured and thus, sales of popcorn were increased in movie theaters around the country and America has never looked back.

This soft, round, flat-crowned cap is particularly known for being worn in France, often being donned as a part of military and police uniforms.

Beret

The black beret was once considered the national cap of France in Anglo-Saxon countries and is part of the stereotypical image of the Onion Johnny. It is no longer as widely worn as it once was, but it remains a strong sign of local identity in the southwest of France. When French people want to picture themselves as "the typical average Frenchman" in France or in a foreign country, they often use this stereotype from Anglo-Saxon countries.

What are some of the most common beans used in cooking? What is your favorite bean dish?

Some common beans used in cooking are black beans, pinto beans, chickpeas, great Northern beans, cannellini beans, kidney beans, lima beans and lentils!

Did you know that in ancient Greece, public officials were elected by beans? It is true, however, the Greeks had an unorthodox method of determining the election of some public officials. Using a “bean machine” – as it is referenced – 100 beans were counted and placed inside the machine. 99 were black and only one was white. So, as you can imagine, 100 eligible names were taken and randomly arranged each taking turns receiving a bean from a tube at the bottom of the machine and the one who received the black bean was chosen. Thankfully, none of these random selections were of any major importance – often determining minor officials or jury members.

True or false: The unpopped popcorn kernels that remain at the bottom of a bag are known as "old maids."

True!

Kernels that are too dry won't be able to create steam (or pressure) and won't pop. They're playfully called "old maids" or "spinsters." It may seem like an odd thing to study, but why certain kernels absolutely refuse to pop have puzzled scientists for years. There have been many studies looking at this, but two components are the most critical. One 1989 study correctly pinpointed moisture content as a critical factor in whether popcorn would pop or not. It took a 2004 study to find out what the optimum moisture was.

The merino cap topped with a star-like pattern was made by the New York sporting goods company Peck & Snyder.

There is a Mexican bean which does what to get out of the sunlight?

a. Dance!

b. Jump!

c. Skip!

d. Sing!

b. Jump!

Mexican jumping beans are not beans but actually caterpillars! They are moth caterpillars maturing in the fallen seedpods of Sebastiania shrubs, which thrive in the hot, dry Mexican climate. The adult moth lays its egg on a developing pod, and the hatched larva nibbles its way inside. The youngster reacts to light and heat, violently jerking its body in an attempt to seek shade, causing the seed to jump.

What are some common ways to make popcorn? What is your favorite way?

Some common ways to make popcorn are on the stove, in the microwave and air-popping.

One stovetop popcorn method is Jiffy Pop! Frederick C. Mennen of LaPorte, Indiana, a chemist, inventor and industrialist, is credited with developing the product in 1958. Mennen began marketing Jiffy Pop in 1959. American Home Products purchased Jiffy Pop from Mennen that same year. There, Alvin Golub, a pharmacologist, perfected the product and within one year it reached the national U.S. market. In 1976, the stage magician Harry Blackstone Jr. was endorsing what the television-commercial jingle called "the magic treat — as much fun to make as it is to eat".

This hat is known by many names, billycock, bombin and derby to name a few! It is a hard felt hat with a rounded crown originally created by London Hat makers.

Bowler Hat

The bowler hat was designed in 1849 by the London hat-makers Thomas and William Bowler to fulfill an order placed by the company of hatters James Lock & Co. of St James's, which had been commissioned by a customer to design a close-fitting, low-crowned hat to protect gamekeepers from low-hanging branches while on horseback. The keepers had previously worn top hats, which were knocked off easily and damaged.

We surveyed 100 people, name something that you would ask the Wizard for in the Land of Oz.

The most common answer was money, no surprise here. Other answers include health or a new heart, a brain, a hot bod, the ability to fly, love, happiness and peace on Earth.

Morgan is best remembered for his performance in The Wizard of Oz (1939), in which picture he played a total of six roles, most notably the Wizard, which included the carnival huckster "Professor Marvel", the gatekeeper at the Emerald City, the coachman of the carriage drawn by "The Horse of a Different Color", the Emerald City guard (who initially refuses to let Dorothy and her friends in to see the Wizard), and the Wizard's scary face projection. Morgan was cast in the role on September 22, 1938. W. C. Fields was originally chosen for the part of the Wizard, but the studio ran out of patience after protracted haggling over his fee.

What can you do with beans to store them for long periods of time?

Dry them!

The traditional method to dry beans was to leave the beans in pods on the plant for as long as possible. Once the weather changed the vines were uprooted and hung under cover, a greenhouse being most often used. When the pods were brittle, the beans were shelled and stored. Being reliant on the weather, the traditional method of drying beans was pretty hit and miss. Improperly dried beans would often develop mould and not be fit to eat. The same problem often hit saved seed. Now we are able to use a dehydrator to safely and efficiently dry beans.

Scientists discovered the perfect temperature to pop popcorn is 180°C, can you calculate this in degrees Fahrenheit?

356°F

The Great Victoria is the largest ______ in Australia, consisting of many small sandhills, grassland plains and salt lakes which are all sparsely populated.

Desert

In 1875, British-born Australian explorer Ernest Giles became the first European to cross the desert. He named the desert after the then-reigning monarch, Queen Victoria. In 1891, David Lindsey's expedition traveled across this area from north to south. Frank Hann was looking for gold in this area between 1903 and 1908. Len Beadell explored the area in the 1960s.

This cap is traditionally worn for graduation by academics, consisting of a horizontal square board fixed upon a skull-cap with a tassel attached to the center.

Mortar Board or Oxford Cap

This cap is sometimes referred to as a  mortarboard because of its similarity in appearance to the mortarboard used by brickmasons to hold mortar. The tassel color means something as well. The American Council on Education (ACE) code states that "The tassel should be black or the colour appropriate to the subject," and makes an exception only for the gold tassel. The gold metallic tassel is reserved for those entitled to wear the doctoral gown, as is the use of velvet for headwear. Only one tassel is worn at a time.

We asked 100 people, name something that might be brewing...

The most common answer was actually coffee! Other answers included beer, tea, trouble, a storm and a plot.

Brewing can mean many different things. Outside of brewing coffee, tea and trouble, there is a specific way to brew beer as well. Brewing is the production of beer by steeping a starch source (commonly cereal grains, the most popular of which is barley) in water and fermenting the resulting sweet liquid with yeast. It may be done in a brewery by a commercial brewer, at home by a homebrewer, or communally. Brewing has taken place since around the 6th millennium BC, and archaeological evidence suggests that emerging civilizations, including ancient Egypt, China, and Mesopotamia, brewed beer. Since the nineteenth century the brewing industry has been part of most western economies.
