Who is the Old law?
A Greek word that means "invocation" or "calling upon." The epiclesis during the liturgy occurs when the priest calls upon the Holy Spirit.
What is epiclesis?
One of two major parts of Mass. It includes the Presentation and preparation of the Gifts, the Eucharistic Prayer, and the Communion Rite.
What is the Liturgy of the Eucharist?
Another name for the Our Father, the prayer Jesus taught his disciples.
What is the Lord's Prayer?
Sacred signs (such as the Sign of the Cross, holy water) instituted by the Church. They do not confer grace as sacraments do, but they make us ready to cooperate with the grace we receive in a sacrament.
What are sacramentals?
The teachings of Jesus during the Sermon on Mount in which he describes the actions and attitudes that should characterize Christians and by which one can discover genuine meaning and happiness.
Who is Beatitudes?
The first of the Seven Sacraments of the Church.
What is Baptism?
The Church's great prayer of thanksgiving to the Father. It includes the consecration of the bread and wine.
What is the Eucharistic Prayer?
A prayer posture of raising one's eyes and extending both hands upward. It resembles the stance of a young child wanting to be picked up.
What is orans?
Translated from Greek as "word", it means 'thought," "logic," or "meaning."
What is Logos?
The Law of the Gospel of Jesus Christ; it is a law of love, grace, and freedom. It is distinguished from the Old Law, or the Law of Moses.
Who is the New Law?
Perfumed oil, consecrated by the bishop, which is used for special anointings in the sacrament of Baptism, Confirmation, and Holy Orders. It signifies the Gifts of the Holy Spirit.
What is a Sacred Chrism?
The age when a young person is old enough to understand the difference between right and wrong. This is generally regarded to be the age of seven.
What is age of reason?
The part of Mass when the people are invited to share a sign of Christ's peace with another.
What is The Sign of Peace?
The book that contains the readings that have been selected for proclamation during the Church's liturgies throughout the year. All the readings are from the Bible.
What is Lectionary?
The denial of God's existence.
What is atheism?
The sharing of Christ's Body and Blood in the liturgy
What is the communion?
The reading stand where Scripture proclaimed during the liturgy.
What is Ambo?
A form of prayer, spoken or sung, involving a dialogue between a leader and the people assembled. The people respond to each phrase said or sung by the leader with a constant refrain or acclamation.
What is Litany?
Leads liturgical activity, such as Mass. Only ordained priests and bishops can preside Mass.
What is the presider?
To show deep reverence for something sacred.
What is to venerate?
The change that takes place when the bread and wine become the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ during Mass.
What is Transubstantiation?
Freeing from guilt. Take place during the Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation, when the priest pardons sins in the name of God and the Church.
What is absolution?
The process through which unbaptized adults and children who have reached the age of reason are initiated into the Church.
What is catechumenate?
Worship of such things as money, possessions, or popularity as if they were God.
