First Allah instructed Nabi Musa to go up Mount Sinai alone so that He could give him a new divine book with laws for the Banu Isra’il to follow. This Book is called Tawrat. Nabi Musa told the Banu Isra’il to wait at the foot of the mountain for 30 days while he went up to get the new laws from Allah. He left Nabi Harun in charge whilst he was gone. After 30 days, Allah told Nabi Musa to wait for 10 more days and not to go back down to his people until 40 days were over. Allah wanted to test the Banu Isra’il. There was an evil man amongst the Banu Isra’il. He told the Banu Isra’il that Nabi Musa had lied to them and he was not going to come back. He told them not to listen to Nabi Harun. Instead he made for them a calf statue out of gold and told them to start worshipping the statue.
