Empathy is recognizing and appreciating another’s perspective, being able to put ourselves in the situation or positions of others, and thinking beyond our own concerns.

ADVANTAGES: Establishes a bond of trust between the Nurse & Client
DISADVANTAGES: Nurses that share personal information about the client to someone who has no right to know may face charges.
As a nurse, what is their job to do for their patients'?
The nurse’s job is to protect the health and life of an individual, not only treating patients who are sick, but offering advice and emotional support.
What could happen if a patient is not treated with equity in the healthcare system?
It can result in major issues such as social resistance, conflict, anxiety, and depression. Inequity can result in stress and harm to one's health and wellbeing.
Why is it important to be empathetic and not sympathetic when caring for a client?
Being sympathetic will make you share their feelings, if they feel a deep depression, that would not be a healthy emotion to feel with them and will not allow you to provide safe and effective care.

How do patients' feel when they are treated with respect in a nurse-client care environment?
Patients have a sense of comfort and can see that the nurses’ are working to their best abilities to perform the best nurse-client care environment
What is an example of treating someone with equity in the healthcare system?
People with the same or similar diagnosis or illness should be treated equally, but people with less severe or more severe diagnosis should get treated differently.
How does being empathetic help with finding underlying reasons with client behaviour?
Being empathetic could allow you to understand the fear underlying a client’s angry response.
