The Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver remakes for the Nintendo DS reintroduced the Gen II-specific pokeballs made from acorns. These included the Lure Ball, which had a 3* catch rate for wild Pokemon found through the use of a fishing rod, the Dusk Ball, which had a 3* catch rate if the Pokemon evolves using a Moon Stone, and the Love Ball, which has an 8* catch rate if the wild Pokemon is of the opposite gender from your current active Pokemon.

Um, Actually... the Dusk ball is not made from acorns, but is a different Pokeball altogether. The acorn Pokeball offering a 3* catch rate for wild Pokemon that evolve using a moon stone is called the Moon Ball. The Dusk ball is sold in shops, and offers a 3* catch rate for wild Pokemon encountered in caves or at night.

In Pokemon X and Y, Mega-evolutions had been introduced to the Pokemon franchise, which allowed for select Pokemon to mega-evolve once per battle, if they held their respective Mega stones. This was incorporated in the OmegaRuby and AlphaSapphire remakes, where Groudon, Kyogre, and Rayquaza are able to mega-evolve as well through their own respective hold items.

Um, Actually... Rayquaza does not need a Mega-stone to mega-evolve to Mega-Rayquaza, but rather, it needs to learn the move Dragon's Ascent. Additionally, Groudon and Kyogre's does not "mega-evolve", but rather, goes through "Primal Reversion" when holding their Orbs.

In the Pokemon games, there are moves which can give allies or opponents status effects. While some status effects are shown visibly such as Paralysis and Burn, there are also other status effects which are not visible in the status screen, such as Attracted, which makes a Pokemon of the opposite gender less likely to attack, and Dazed, which makes an opponent have a possibility of inflicting damage to itself instead.

Um, Actually... Dazed is not a status effect in the Pokemon Games. The nearest status effect that fits that description is Confusion.

In the third generation of Pokemon games, the concept of different forms was introduced with Deoxys. While still unobtainable via conventional means in Gen III (aside from Nintendo Events), once obtained, Deoxys has a Normal, Attack, Defense, and Speed form, which alters its appearance and stats based on the current form.

Um, Actually... While Deoxys was released in the third generation of Pokemon games, the specific form of Deoxys would depend on your Pokemon game version. Ruby and Sapphire would get the Normal form, FireRed would get the Attack form, LeafGreen would get the Defense form, and Emerald would get the Speed form. It's only in Generation IV onwards where the game allowed you to switch between the forms.

The first main Pokemon games marketed internationally were Pokemon Red and Pokemon Green, based on Charizard and Venusaur, for the Game Boy console. These would later go on to be updated for the Game Boy Advance console under the names FireRed and LeafGreen in 2004.

Um, Actually... The first Pokemon games marketed internationally for the Game Boy console were Pokemon Red and Blue. The Japanese version of Pokemon Red and Green were initial rough cuts, and Pokemon Blue was released as an update. In localizing the files for the western market, the updated scripts from Pokemon Blue were used.

2

A quality-of-life change added in Generation IV are the gender differences in the sprites of various Pokemon (excluding Nidoking/Nidoqueen, which despite their similarities in names, don't belong to the same specific species). Among the gender differences include the presence of a seed in the middle of the flower of the male Venusaur, the larger horn of some Pokemon Species in males than the females such as Seaking, as well as the different spot patterns in the flower of male and female Vileplumes.

Um, Actually... A seed in the middle of a Venusaur's flower is exclusive to female Venusaurs.

2

In the first generation of the Pokemon Games, there were Pokemon moves that cannot be learned by certain Pokemon despite the Pokemon design and vice versa. Noteable examples include Lickitung, the Licking Pokemon, who doesn't learn the move Lick, and Charizard, despite having wings, cannot learn Fly, until it was updated in Generation II. However, while Dodrio does not possess wings, it is able to learn Fly.

Um, Actually... While Charizard was initially unable to learn the move Fly in Red/Green/Blue, it was made possible for Charizard to learn Fly in Pokemon Yellow.

2

While Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire has you face off against Team Magma or Team Aqua, respectively version-wise, in Pokemon Emerald, you choose which team you want to thwart, while the Hoenn Champion thwarts the other team.

Um, Actually... In Pokemon Emerald, you face both teams, and aren't allowed to choose which team you want to stop.

2

Pokemon designs are based on a large number of things, which includes flowers, animals, household items, and even fossils. The concept of Fossil Pokemon have already been present since the first generation of the Pokemon Games, which include Kabuto, Omanyte, and Aerodactyl. Each successive generation introduced their own additional fossil Pokemon to the collection, such as Lileep (Root Fossil), Shieldon (Armor Fossil), and Archen (Plume Fossil).

Um, Actually... Generation II did not introduce any new Fossil Pokemon.

2

Pokemon remakes offers fresh new takes on previous ideas and concepts from older-generation Pokemon games with current technology. The first Pokemon games to be officially remade were FireRed and LeafGreen, which were released after Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald, and was based on the Initial Pokemon games, but had been updated and refined for the Game Boy Advance.

Um, Actually... The first official remakes were made prior to Pokemon Emerald (Ruby and Sapphire were released in 2003, FireRed and LeafGreen were released in 2004, and Emerald was released on 2005). Yellow, Crystal, and Emerald are not remakes, but sequels to the main games from their generation.

3

With each generational release, Pokemon games are initially released in pairs, which are sometimes followed by a third game. To differentiate the versions of the initial pair of games without feeling too different, various quality-of-life changes are made such as version-exclusive Pokemon, Pokemon sprites, Pokedex entries, and even storylines. The fifth generation of Pokemon games went a step further and was the first generation to add gameplay and aesthetic differences for each initial version. There are version-specific trainer battles in Gen V, as well as aesthetic differences in some areas, where Pokemon White and White 2 adopts a more rustic approach, while Pokemon Black and Black 2 has a more modern take. Additionally, Pokemon White has access to the White Forest, where you are able to catch various Pokemon, while in Pokemon Black, you are able to access Black City, where you can battle trainers and buy items from the shops present in the city.

Um, Actually... the first instance of aesthetic version differences are already present in Gen III. When playing Pokemon Ruby, Groudon is sleeping in lava, while Pokemon Sapphire has Kyogre sleeping in water.

3

Additional Pokemon Types have been introduced throughout the lifespan of the main Pokemon games. While Gen II introduced the DARK, STEEL, and GHOST as official Pokemon types, the FAIRY Pokemon type was introduced and added to Pokemon games in Gen VI. The addition of the FAIRY type was to provide more variety in countering Dragon Type Pokemon, which were only weak to Dragon and Ice-type moves. Additionally, many pre-existing Pokemon were updated to include FAIRY to its type.

Um, Actually... GHOST-type has been present in the first generation of Pokemon Games.

3

A limitation on the first generation of Pokemon games was the limit of items you can store in your bag. Since there was no separate compartments for different item types, Pokeballs shared the same stash as Potions and TMs & HMs, and a full bag was a normal occurrence, especially for players who wanted to collect the full list of 30 TMs and 5 HMs at the time.

Um, Actually... There were 50 TMs from the first generation up to the third generation.

3

In 1999, Gamefreak released Pokemon Yellow, which starts you off with Pikachu as your starter Pokemon while your rival has Eevee. In this version, you are able to obtain all three elemental starter Pokemon throughout the game, but there are also unobtainable Pokemon within the game, such as Magmar, Electabuzz, and Scyther, which are version-exclusive Pokemon from the first generation.

Um, Actually, Scyther is not a version-exclusive Pokemon, and it is still obtainable in Pokemon Yellow.

3

Hidden Abilities were introduced in the fifth generation of Pokemon games, which allowed Pokemon, with the exception of Legendary Pokemon, to have an existing ability that they would not normally have. Notable examples of this include the Water-type Pokemon Marill's hidden ability of Sap Sipper (which renders it immune to normally super-effective Grass-type attacks), as well as the Water-type Pokemon Seaking's hidden ability of Lightningrod (which renders it immune to normally super-effective Electric-type attacks).

Um, Actually... Even some legendary Pokemon have Hidden Abilities.

4

Pokemon Black 2 / White 2 takes place two years after the events of Pokemon Black and White. You play as the nephew of the protagonist from the earlier game, and start off in a different town from the same region. The rivals of the protagonist from Black and White are now a Gym Leader (Cheren) and the professor's assistant (Bianca). Iris, who was the Dragon-type gym leader in Pokemon White, is now the Pokemon champion. While previous sequels sometimes update the features of their earlier games (e.g. gym mechanics), Pokemon Black 2 / White 2 introduces new towns as well as Gyms progressions as well.

Um, Actually... The protagonist in Pokemon Black 2 / White 2 is unrelated to the protagonist of Pokemon Black and White.

4

In Generation II, pre-evolutions of certain Pokemon, as well as the concept of pre-evolutions and breeding mechanics, was introduced in the series. These included pre-evolutions for Pikachu, Magmar, Mr. Mime, Jynx, and Electabuzz.

Um, Actually... The pre-evolution of Mr. Mime was introduced in Gen IV.

4

While the concept of "Shiny" Pokemon had been introduced in the second generation of Pokemon games, encountering these variants were purely left to chance encounters until Gen V. With Gen V, stationary shiny pokemon, as well as gifted shiny pokemon, was made possible. Specifically, in Pokemon Black 2 / White 2, you are able to battle and capture a stationary Shiny Haxorus, as well as be gifted with a shiny version of Gible or Dratini (depending on your version).

Um, Actually... There is an instance of a stationary shiny pokemon in the second generation. You are also able to battle and capture a shiny Gyarados at Lake Rage in Pokemon Gold/Silver.

4

Red, the protagonist from the first generation Pokemon games, can be found and battled in Pokemon Gold, Silver, and Crystal, at the top of Mt. Silver, and has a team that includes Pikachu, as well as the evolved starter Pokemon from the first generation. Keeping in line with not having any visible dialogue in the first generation games, he only responds with "..." before you battle.

Um, Actually... While the protagonist from the first generation Pokemon games does not normally have visible dialogue in the first generation games, an exception to this would be when talking to the MIMIC Girl in Saffron City.

4

For a select number of Pokemon, evolution is possible through the use of evolutionary stones. In the fourth generation of Pokemon games, new evolution stones were introduced to allow for additional evolution choices, as well as new evolutions for already pre-existing Pokemon. The Dawn Stone allowed for a male Kirlia to evolve to a Gallade, or a female Snorunt to evolve to Froslass; Shiny Stone allowed a Roselia to evolve to Roserade; the Dusk Stone allowed for Murkrow, Misdreavus, and Dusclops to evolve into Honchkrow, Mismagius, and Dusknoir, respectively.

Um, Actually... the Dusk Stone cannot be used to evolve Dusclops to Dusknoir. This evolution is only possible by trading Dusclops to another player (while holding a Reaper Cloth).

5

The mechanic of breeding in Pokemon games fall down to Egg groups. If two Pokemon of different genders, even if of different species, is left at the daycare, A Pokemon egg may be found, which hatches into the base form of the Mother's Pokemon species. An example of this would be a Wailord and a Skitty breeding a pokemon egg. An exception to this mechanic would be the case for Ditto, which is able to breed with all Pokemon species except for Legendary Pokemon.

Um, Actually... Ditto is able to breed with Manaphy, which is considered a legendary Pokemon, to obtain Phione. Phione, however, does not evolve to Manaphy.

5

Pokemon Black and White revolves around the ideas of Truth and Ideals in the Pokemon mythos. Progressing through the main storyline, you are able to battle and capture the Black dragon of Ideals Zekrom in Pokemon Black, and the White dragon of Truth Reshiram in Pokemon White.

Um, Actually... The Black and White titles have the protagonist battle and capture the Pokemon of the opposite color of the version. You battle and capture the white dragon in Pokemon Black, and the black dragon in Pokemon White.

5

In Pokemon Diamond and Pearl, the ghost dragon Pokemon Giratina can be found and captured in the Distortion World. In Pokemon Platinum, which features Giratina, introduced the Griseous Orb, which allowed Giratina to change forms from its altered form and its origin form.

Um, Actually... the Distortion World was only introduced in Pokemon Platinum. In Diamond and Pearl, Giratina can be found and captured in turnback cave.

5

Set three years after the events of the first generation games, in Pokemon Gold and Silver, Giovanni and Team Rocket resurface and once again serve as the antagonists for the new protagonist.

Um, Actually... Giovanni does not make an appearance in Gold/Silver, as he resigned from his position as the leader of Team Rocket, and was not part of Team Rocket's plan.

5

In the gameplay design for Pokemon games, Pokemon were designed with specific abilities and type matchups in mind that would allow for tradeoffs and avoid overpowering. For example, a pure Electric-type pokemon, which is weak to Ground-type, would not be designed with the Levitate ability (which would render the Pokemon immune to Ground-Type moves).

Um, Actually... Elektross is an electric-type Pokemon with the Levitate ability.
