Modern tourism is closely linked to development and encompasses a growing number of new destinations. These dynamics have turned tourism into a key driver for socio-economic progress.
Types of tourism found in Jamaica/ Caribbean is: Health tourism, Eco-Tourism, Heritage Tourism, Special Events, Adventure Tourism and Community based Tourism
Mass tourism: Involves thousands of people going to the same resort, often at the same time of year. Most time it involves packages deals.
Tourism Markets: All persons and businesses that buy and sell tourism services and products.
Briefly explain two types of tourists.
International Tourist: refers to tourists who visit (to travel to) areas outside of their country. For example; someone leaving the USA to visit Jamaica. Jamaica’s main tourists’ markets come from USA, Canada and Europe.
Regional Tourist: refers to tourist who visit within a defined geographical area. For example, Jamaicans travelling within the Caribbean (Jamaica to Barbados)
Domestic Tourist: spends at least a day away from their usual place of residence, but still within the country where they live, for example leaving Kingston to visit Montego Bay.
