Currently, only five countries celebrate Black History Month (officially). Canada, Netherlands, Ireland, United Kingdom, and the United States. Name which ones celebrate it in February vs. October.

In the United States and Canada, we celebrate Black history in February. However, in the United Kingdom, Ireland, and the Netherlands, they honor it during the month of October. In 2014, Ireland became only the fourth country in the world to celebrate Black History Month.

In what year was Black History Month Nationally recognized? 

1976. Despite its forerunner, Negro History Week, originating all the way back in 1926, Black History Month as we know it today didn’t become nationally recognized until the 1970s. Black students and educators at Kent State first celebrated Black History Month in January and February of 1970. Other educational institutions started following suit, and for the United States’ bicentennial, President Gerald Ford recognized Black History Month, as has every president since.

Name the person who originally invented the lightbulb?

Joseph Swan! Thomas Edison patented 1,093 thing, however, over time it became known that he didn't invent most of those patents and is known as the world's most "notorious intellectual property thief".  Of the 1,093 things he put a patent on, he stole most of them off geniuses like Nikola Tesla, Wilhelm Rontgen, and Joseph Swan.

Paving the way for women of color in Congress (and the White House) was Shirley Chisolm, who represented New York in the House of Representatives. Just four years after she entered the House, in 1972, she became the first Black candidate for a major party’s nomination in the race for President of the United States.

Why did Hollywood move from New York to Los Angeles? 

Hollywood moved from New York to Los Angeles to escape Edison’s patents. Thomas Edison had patents on over 1,000 different things, including most of the technology needed to make high-end movies. So independent filmmakers moved to California, to an area of the country where the judges weren’t as friendly to Edison and his patents.

Who was the originator for Black History Month (originally Negro History Week)?

Historian Carter G. Woodson, worked passionately to establish the event in an effort to provide an education on the origins, struggles, and achievements of African-Americans in United States history. Originally, it existed as seven days of commemoration, first established in 1926 and called “Negro History Week.” Woodson penned more than a dozen books, including 1933’s Mis-Education of the Negro.
