False. During an unannounced survey, TJC traces units, departments and clinics to monitor compliance with NPSGs. The purpose of the NPSGs is to promote specific improvements in patient safety. Therefore, all health care professionals should be familiar with them – especially those goals that are applicable to their practice (e.g. hand hygiene, patient identification, medication reconciliation).

On inpatient care units and clinical areas open 7 days/week, the cart is checked and documented on the Emergency Cart/Defibrillator Check sheet one (1) time each day. We check if the cart lock is intact, and if the cart number and lock number match the numbers documented on the Pharmacy Information sheet.

What precautions do you use with patients who have C-diff?
• Patients with known or suspected C. diff are placed on Contact Precautions-Enhanced. • I must wear gown and gloves upon entering the room • Hand hygiene is performed with soap and water or alcohol-based foam UPON ENTERING. • Soap and water only must be used WHEN LEAVING patient room or space. • All reusable patient equipment must be disinfected with bleach wipe.

Describe the process of “TIME OUT” for a bedside procedure.
A time out final verification must be performed for procedures done outside of the operating room. If there is only one person doing the procedure, a brief pause to confirm the correct procedure, site and patient is required.
