What is Brainwash?
A news story that has only very recently occurred and is newly reported.
What is a break?
New coverage favoring a specific type of people due to possible bias.
What is a Slant?
A nonfiction story covering a specific topic in very lengthy detail.
What is a Feature?
A short slogan, verse, or tune designed to be easily remembered, especially in advertising.
What is a jingle?
A list of writers, editors, and owners - as well as the title - at the top of a newspaper page.
What is a Masthead?
The name under the title of an article to identify who wrote it.
What is a byline?
A part time or freelance job given by organization for a specific topic.
What is a stringer?
The beginning of the story that can be as short as a sentence or as long as a few paragraphs. It should connect quickly to the story's main idea.
What is a Lead?
A trick or device intended to attract attention, publicly, or business.
What is a Gimmick?
Large printed words at the top of the front newspaper page under the newspaper name.
What is a Banner?
Description or comment that goes with an illustration, graphic and/or photo
What is a cutline?
A line of type at the bottom of an incomplete paper directing readers to go to the next page to continue.
What is a Jump?
A story structure where the most important information is presented first, and arranging the rest of the information from most to least important.
What is an Inverted Pyramid Structure?
A short or striking memorable phrase used in advertising.
What is a slogan?
The bottom section of a story written ahead of an event that will happen too close to deadline to be processed.
What is a B Copy?
A story that no one else has reported.
What is exclusive?
An article stating the authors or organizations opinion.
What is an Editorial?
A notice of someone's death, and a brief summary of their life.
What is an Obituary?
A misleading nature used to promote or publicize a particular political cause or point of view.
What is Propaganda?
A form of journalism where a reporter covers a specific topic on a consistent basis.
What is a Beat?
An attempt to correct a previous story with error without letting it be known there was error or that you were responsible for error.
What is a Rowback?
Reporting about information regarding events taking place.
