Caesar, Pompey, and Crassus
What is the first triumvirate
At the race Brutus is pulled aside by Cassius. Cassius is jealous of Caesar and wants to overthrow him. However he needs Brutus’ help because he is close to Caesar and the people of Rome love him. Meanwhile a soothsayer warns Caesar of the ides of March. But Caesar dismisses him. Later that day Casca sees odd things, such as people on fire without burning and and owl during the day, around the city on his way to a meeting. At the meeting Cassius drops letters in Brutus’ room.

What is Close reading?
_______: A supporter of the republic who believes strongly in a government guided by the votes of senators. While he loves Caesar as a friend, he opposes the ascension of any single man to the position of dictator, and he fears that Caesar aspires to such power.

The conspirators meet in Brutus’ house. Brutus thinks that Caesar poses a threat to Rome. This is because Caesar is an excellent general and the people love him. Brutus fears that Caesar will become a king and “enslave” the people of Rome. He believe that, with great power, Caesar will be an abusive ruler. In the Third scene a man tries to tell Caesar that the senate will kill him but Caesar doesn’t listen.

Caesar is once again warned that he is going to be killed but he, once again, ignores the warning. At the senate he is murdered by stabbing. Antony tells the conspirators that he is on their side and he requests to speak at caesars’ funeral. Brutus gives a speech telling the people why Caesar was murdered. Then when it is Antony’s turn he changes the crowds loyalty and reads aloud Caesar’s will which enrages the people at the conspirators. Brutus and Cassius flee.

What was the Globe Theater?
The preparations for battle have begun. Brutus and Cassius are paranoid and argue. Cassius accuses Brutus of wrongfully condemning his friend. The argument eventually fizzles down and they receive some upsetting news. Portia, Brutus’ wife, killed herself. Brutus id devastated but hides it from his soldiers. Back in Rome, Antony, Lepidus, and Octavius rule. They believe it will be a quick battle.

The first four acts of the play are set in Rome between 44 and 42 BCE. The final act of the play is set in and around a Roman-controlled battlefield in Greece
What is the setting?
Before the battle the leaders meet and exchange words. Then once the battle has begun, everything goes down hill for the conspirators. Cassius believes that Titanius has died so he asks his servant to kill him, and he does. Then when Titanius comes to tell Cassius that they won he discovers him dead and also kills himself. When Brutus Sees both his friends dead he is disheartened but he carries on. Once he looses the final battle he kills himself after sending his men away. Antony gives a speech for Brutus and heads back for Rome.
