Name the three levels of hayaa' and briefly explain each of them

a. Spiritual Hayaa’ - modesty before Allah. This is when a person is tempted to do something disliked by Allah. The person instead obeys Allah’s orders and they avoid all actions that displease Him.   

b. Social Hayaa’ - modesty before people. It consists of treating them fairly, doing no harm to them, and not showing them any ugly side. This starts with one’s relationship with his or her family. 

c. Personal Hayaa’ - modesty with oneself. The person respects themselves and works on his behavior to become honorable, especially when no one is around. They avoid all bad habits.

Allah guides us to respect each other as fellow humans and creations of God. As men and women, we must respect that Allah created Eve, or Hawaa’, from Adam. This gives men and women the capacity to interact in a respectful, cooperative, and harmonious way. Muslim brothers and sisters in Islam should have the highest level of respect for each other.

Define the following: Zakat-ul-Mal, Zakat-ul-Fitr, Nisaab, Al-Masakeen, Al-’Aamiloon Alayha.

a. Zakat-ul-Mal - to pay obligatory charity from our wealth to the poor once a year, the amount is set at a fixed percentage or proportion of each individual’s wealth. 

b. Zakat-ul-Fitr - an obligatory charity that has to be given in the form of food at the end of the month of Ramadan. The amount is a fixed sum, the same for everyone regardless of their income. 

c. Nisaab - the minimum extra wealth a person should save over a year in order to pay zakah. 

d. Al-Masakeen - ‘The Poor’, these people have some income that is not enough for them. They are still very poor and feel embarrassed to seek help from others.   

e. Al-;Aamiloon Alayha - ‘The Zakah Officials’, A Muslim state, community, or even a mosque, appoints official “zakah collectors” whose responsibility is to collect and distribute zakah. These officials must be given salaries to perform this important work. Their salaries are given to them out of the zakah fund.
