Yes. Resident B has a right to possess alcohol in their room, but Resident A is not allowed to touch it at any time.

No. No items may hang out of the windows of the residential system, nor should anything be hung from windows or obstruct entrance or exit doors.

No. Residents under 21 may not host drinking in their rooms.

Ceiling. Items hung from the ceiling present a fire hazard and can interfere with smoke alarm and sprinkler systems.

How many nights may guests officially stay within a two-week period?
Three nights within a two-week period is the officially permitted amount. Entertaining guests is a negotiable issue with a roommate, not an inalienable right. Any amount above three days is only with the explicit permission of the roommate.
Is marijuana in edible form permitted on campus?
No. Though legal in Michigan, medical and recreational marijuana are not permitted on campus property. The College receives a great deal of federal funding for student financial aid, and federal restrictions on marijuana supersede Michigan state law. Simply put, permitting marijuana on campus may jeopardize the ability of the college to receive federal funding.
May residents loft their beds?
No. Many residence halls feature built-in furniture which does not allow for this, and in addition, we are unable to provide loft kits or specific plans for loft building due to variation among the residential facilities.
What are the minimum quiet hours within the residence halls?
As a minimum standard, quiet hours will begin at 11pm on weekdays (Sunday-Thursday) and 1am on weekends (Friday and Saturday). Noise and activity must be confined to student rooms during quiet hours. In addition, courtesy hours are in effect 24/7.
What pet may a resident who is not ESA or service animal approved have?
Fish in a tank holding ten gallons or less. Students seeking an ESA or service animal approval should submit the Request for Accommodations Form and provide supporting documentation.
Recycling of what material is the only material permitted within the residence halls?
Paper. Bins are provided outside each residence hall for other kinds of recycling (glass, tin, etc.), and such recycling must take place outside of the residence halls.
A resident approaches you with concern regarding a spiritual ritual that they participate in that involves tobacco. The resident understands that this is a tobacco-free and smoke-free campus. What can they do?
Requests can be submitted in writing and will be considered for approval by the Dean of Students Office in consultation with the Chaplain.
May residents remove or submit work orders for removal of provided furniture?
No furnishings may be removed from a student’s room or from any common area for any reason. Removing furnishings from any public or common area will result in the supervised return of the missing items and a fee per item per day until the furnishings are returned.
Residents may be charged for damages, theft of college property, and the need for what?
Extraordinary cleaning of common areas, suite/quad, or shared bathroom. In cases where individual responsibility cannot be determined, charges will be apportioned among all members of the room, suite, hall, floor, wing, hallway, or section as deemed appropriate by the Office of Residential Life.
Your resident has an approved accommodation for an air conditioner. What should they do next?
They should buy a window air conditioning unit and then contact Facilities Management staff regarding installation. Students must provide their own unit, and only Facilities Management staff should install air conditioners.
Drones and unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) are generally prohibited on campus. Before UAS can be permitted restricted use on campus, it must first be registered with what governmental agency?
Federal Aviation Administration. Proof and a copy of the registration must be provided to the Vice President for Student Development and Dean of Students for approval.
