Define microaggression and macroaggression? What are the consequences of each?

Microaggression is defined as any incident involving unintentional or subtle discrimination. Macroaggression is defined as any utterance of a slur, physical contact, clear hatred for a certain group, or overt discriminatory behavior.

Consequences for committing a microaggression (first violation):

  1. An additional DEIB Point

  2. Mandatory Sober Monitoring of an event of their choice

  3. Required submission of an essay reflecting on the impact of the offender's actions.

Consequence for committing a microaggression (second violation):

  1. Macroaggressive consequence: Immediate removal from the fraternity WITHOUT due process

Valid- Previously scheduled exams, Class, Religious Observances, Family/Work Emergencies,  and Illness. Invalid- Study groups/exam reviews, Regularly scheduled work shifts.

What is the difference between e-board and e-comm?

All members of e-comm are a part of e-board but not all members of e-board are a part of e-comm.  E-comm consists of the President, VP, Secretary, and Treasurer.

Explain the DEIB report and appeals form.

The report form is a place any member or pledge can turn to as a way to submit a concern regarding yourself or another member that violates our DEIB policies and safety. It can be anonymous or not and goes directly to our DEIB chair and pres and VP if permitted/needed. The  appeals form is meant to counteract a report you believe is made out of bad faith. Evaluated by ecomm and DEIB chair if found needing evaluation.

What time are pledge and general meetings? Who do you text if you are missing either or both?

Pledge meetings are 7:30-8:30 (most times- all eyes on Tyler), General Meetings are 6:30-7:30. Text both Tyler (PE) and Sarah (secretary) for general meetings, and just Tyler for a pledge meeting.

Professional- Slacks, Dress Pants, Blouses, Blazers, Appropriate-length dresses and skirts. Unprofessional- Khakis, Sweaters, Hoodies, Jeans, Sweatpants, Open-toed and extremely high heels

How do nominations work?

A member who hopes to run for a certain position must be nominated by another member. This is done by sending a text to the current president that states the person's full name, what position you nominate them for, and their contact information.

What is KAPis Purpose?

The purpose of this Fraternity shall be to foster knowledge of the law for undergraduate students; to provide service to the greater community and campus; to promote a strong sense of fraternalism among members; to uphold the ideals and integrity of Kappa Alpha Pi Pre-Law Co-ed Fraternity; so that each member may advance their intellect while contributing actively to the well-being of others.

  • President: present at most events, lead meetings, liaison between frat and uni, complaints/problems, Semi-Formal, Chicago, Initiation, member decisions

  • VP: assist president, maintain constitution, theoretical/procedural work, Formal and Hayride, assist all e-board, disciplinary action and point probation, handles RVSM violations. 

  • Secretary: maintain ties with other KAPi Chapters, attendance for meetings and events, weekly emails, create + maintain email list, inform members of status and probation proceedings, assist PE and Rush Chair during Rush Week, minutes and notes at all meetings, schedule rooms 

  • Treasurer: collect dues and event payments, Keeping track of Frat finances, works with fundraising chair, deals with frat's account and services, Budget sheets, approves budget requests, KAPi payments through personal Venmo 

  • Pledge Educator: communicates all pledge issues, disciplinary role for pledges, organize/conduct weekly pledge meetings, pledge MT and Final, keeping track and informing pledges of requirements, facilitating bonding among pledges, overseeing induction, providing pledge manual, Head of Icomm during rush week, works with other chairs for pledge events

  • Rush Chair: recruitment activities, promotes KAPi, sets rush dates, mass email to spread word, sparticipation, planning + running rush, assist PE in IComm

  • Professional Development Chair: hosts 1/5  general meetings, law school and profession information, speakers for membership, sharing internships, 6 point opps

  • Service Chair: good contact with EL, 1/5 general meetings, 6 point opps, knowledge of communities in need, support each other in KAPi

  • Brotherhood Chair: host 1/5 general meetings, run siblings week + Big/Little, arrange bigs and littles, social opportunities, integrate pledges, 6 point opps, intramural sports teams.

  • Fundraising Chair: works with treasurer, 3 point opps, spread awareness with fliers, collect designs + merch

  • Academic Chair: academic guide, hosts 1/5 general meetings, mandatory study hours 2x a month, resources for success, record frat GPA, self-care events, study groups

  • Historian: controls social media, photograph functions, recording officers and members, family trees, maintaining image on SM, rush video, alumni relations, designing social media outreach for members to post, senior/grad photos

  • DEIB Chair: hosts 1/5 general meetings, works with rush Chair for diversity pre-rush, devises a DEI plan each semester, formally addresses broader issues, head I and B committee, holds accountable, works with rush Chair and PE for diverse pledge class
