Compositive
Learning happens best when students construct their own understandings. With teacher support, students design their own learning within an inquiry arc which may include ways to solve math problems, creative writing pieces, engineering designs, informational research, and artistic expression.
What is inquriy?
Amira continuously encouraged me to make sure I was doing this when having impactful conversations with students and observing their personal inquiry discoveries. I am sorry to say that I did not fully succeed in this area this year, but it will be something I focus on next year.
What is documentation?
This student taught me to be accountable over my words and actions by saying "Miss K, I really didn't like it when you didn't let me finish my sentence. It made me feel like you didn't hear me."
Who is Abraham?
This is a student who is very charming. They started below grade level and has now reached grade level for the end of the year testing. They have shown an immense growth and I am very proud of them and honored to have been a part of their success this year.
Who is Leonel?
I thought scoring papers and submitting grades was hard... wait till you hear about what Compositive Primary does instead.
What are portfolios?
Coming from lots of direct teaching it has been extremely challenging to let go and facilitate. For our recent arc I allowed myself to watch and allow students to lead me in their learning. This area is a work in progress...
What is student led teaching?
This person throughout the year has said something along the lines of "I don't know what my job is" but has gone above and beyond to advocate and encourage each of us here.
Who is Ellen?
This student has become extremely brave throughout the year. They have learned how to overcome their fears in front of an audience and to feel proud about that growth.
