What's the first thing you should do when you come in?
Get started on the Do Now! You can find it in Google Classroom, the TV screen, and/or the whiteboard at the front of class.
I missed a couple days of school. Where can I find the agenda for the week so I know what we did?
Big whiteboard at the back! You can/should also check Google Classroom for any missing assignments and/or videos, slideshows, PDFs etc. that we used to learn new stuff.
Mr. K just asked for my phone. Why is he doing too much?
It's school policy that you get one verbal warning to put your phone away if you ever have it out during class/in school. Mr. K couldn't change that if he wanted to. Also, it's kinda for the better because phones are usually too much of a distraction from learning than an actual help anyways.
It's not my fault Joe Shmoe over there stomped on my food and rubbed it over the floor. Why is Mr. K so serious about it getting cleaned up?
In this case, yeah Joe Shmoe should definitely be the one cleaning it up. In general though, everyone is expected to participate in cleaning up/packing up at the end of class. This way we have a WAY better environment to actually learn in and we're indirectly showing respect for the hard-working custodians.
Why can't I use Google Translate?
1: It's actually not that good at its job
2: Because that's lazy and cheating. Copy + Paste-ing stuff into Google Translate does not help you actually learn.
What happens after the Do Now?
We review the Do Now together as a class and get a brief preview for what's on the agenda for the day, as well as what the learning objectives are.
IDK what we're doing today? Where can I look for answers to this before asking Mr. K?
The whiteboard at the front next to the TV should have the days' objectives pre-written (e.g. "I can talk about things I like and don't like in Spanish").
I just cussed somebody out and Mr. K said that's not okay. Why is he a *&^%$^&^%$&*?
1: Again, it's school policy and
2:It basically comes down to mutual respect and professionalism. If I can't cuss out my boss or co-workers, which I can't, then you shouldn't treat others like that either while you're here.
Why does Mr. K care if I'm sagging my pants?
Professionally: it's against school dress code so Mr. K's opinion doesn't matter. It can't happen in the classroom because it's against the school dress code.
Why can't I bring my textbook home?
It's easier to take good care of them if we keep them in class. If want to use your resources at home for an assignment, studying, or any other reason, just check what's on Google Classroom!
After the Do Now/Agenda Review, what do we do?
The lesson! This could be through a slideshow, video, Jigsaw activity or any number of ways to learn new Spanish content.
I just finished my test. Where do I turn it in?
Use the receiver by the pencil sharpener on Mr. K's desk. Find the slot with your class period number on it and there you go!
Why did Mr. K send me to the Peace Room with a referral?
It mostly depends on the situation, but chances are:
1. You had been doing something that was disrupting and/or hurting the class.
2. Mr. K tried multiple times, both verbally and non-verbally, to help you correct your behavior and contribute positively
3. Despite the repeated re-direction and eventual point deduction, you didn't focus up on the lesson and continued to disrupt the class.
I think I lost my AirPods. How can I find them?
If I find pricier stuff like that and no one claims it I'll talk to Ms. Reyna about it at the end of the day.
If it's less fancy, it'll be displayed during SDL on WEDNESDAY.
Why is Mr. K taking so long to grade my assignment that I turned in 2 weeks late?
Because you turned it in 2 weeks late. That's 10 points off right there. Sorry not sorry.
What's the last part of class?
Review and clean up. This is where we might do an exit ticket or review game to both practice what we learned and re-cap all that just happened. This is also when textbooks need to be turned in for the day to make sure they stay in good shape.
I just finished my worksheet assignment. Where do I turn it in?
The lefthand side of the slotbox next to Mr. K's desk, closest to the door. Make sure you turn it in to the correct slot for your class period!
Does Mr. K hate me for sleeping?
Absolutely not! I've been there before, I don't take it personally, and I know life can have you like that sometimes, but because it's my job I do prefer to have you awake during class. If I wake you up because of this, I'll be sure to do it gently and not in a way that embarrasses anyone.
Mr. K literally has two jars of pencils just for me to use. Why's he mad I took one?
Chances are I'm not mad, but maybe a little annoyed. Either way, I appreciate people respecting me and my stuff, so if you need some supplies just let me know and I can help you, but don't just take it without permission. If everyone did that it'd be 1000x harder for me to keep providing for my students when they, for example, forgot a pencil.
How often should I check my school gmail and Google Classroom?
Can we take textbooks home?
Not yet. Once we've been using them for long enough and had enough practice taking care of them, then maybe. For now, check them in at the beginning and check them out at the end.
I want to save my unfinished assignment and/or my guided notes packet. Where can I do that?
Same slotbox as the worksheet assignments, just on the righthand side of it this time!
Seating charts? Does Mr. K hate teenagers?
No, but due to COVID I do have to have accurate records of where everyone is. I get that assigned seats isn't fun, so students can pick their seats at the beginning of the quarter but need to know that's where they'll be staying. I reserve the right to move students and further restrict seats if the current seating chart proves problematic.
Do I get extra credit for winning this game?
No, but you do for turning in your copy of the contract with both your signature and the one from your parent and/or legal guardian.
I hate this. I suck at Spanish; why do I even need to know this stuff? It's lame.
1: Just because you're not amazing at it right away doesn't mean you "suck at Spanish," it just means you need a little more practice and that's no problem! I definitely did too when I was 14/15. We all start somewhere.
2: Learning a new language helps A LOT in different ways. Being bilingual is a big flex when you're doing job interviews, it opens you up to connecting more with more people, and it's just overall really fun to hablar en un idioma para la divertad, a veces.
