Land- Anglos were taking away Mexican-owned property, which weakened the social standing of Mexicans even further.

World War 2 - The majority of people being drafted were Mexican-Americans. When the veterans would return home, some would be denied their veteran benefits simply because of their race. This arose consciousness since they were "men in American uniforms."
