Poetry Terms
The pattern of rhyme in a poem, based on letters of the alphabet that we put at the end of each verse
Rhyme Scheme
The type of sentence that asks a question
Interrogative
Explain physical appearance
Example: how the character is described (hair color, how they dress, etc.)
"So dawn goes down to day" is an example of this technique
Alliteration
Is the following sentence a complete sentence, fragment, or run-on:
Because of the rain.
Fragment
Explain actions/behavior
Example: what the character does and how they act (helpful to others, selfish, etc.)
Imagery
Is the following sentence a complete sentence, fragment, or run-on:
I hate this movie, it is so boring.
Run-on sentence
Explain inner thoughts
Example: What the character thinks/feels (feels lonely, sad, happy, etc.)
The term for a paragraph in a poem
Stanza
Explain reactions
Example: how the character reacts to other/how they make others feel (make friends feel happy, sad, etc.)
The beat or pace of a poem
Rhythm
Explain speech
Example: what the character says (speaking loud, quiet, etc.)
