The part of a mixture that you have lower amount of
What is a solute
100
State the difference between a catalyst and inhibitor.
What is a catalyst increases the rate of a chemical reaction and an inhibitor decreases the rate of a chemical reaction
100
The precipitate was most likely formed from a reaction between the acid and this.
What is the lead foil
100
Define density.
What is how dense something is (specifically the amount of mass per unit of volume)
100
Name 3 variables that increase or reduce the rate of the reaction.
What is surface area, temperature, and concentration (catalysts and inhibitors can also do this but they are not variables)
200
The part of the mixture that you have a greater amount of (typically water)
What is a solvent
200
Name the controlled variable in this lab.
What is the temperature of the water
200
Why did the gold foil remain on the ball at the end of the experiment?
What is because the gold does not react with the hydrochloric acid in the glass.
200
State why the Color Dotz did not react with the oil.
What is - because they are made of a water-soluble chemical and only react with water
200
A mixture of a solvent and solute(s).
What is a solution
300
Which trial would have taken the shortest amount of time- The one with high concentration, medium concentration, or low concentration?
What is the one with high concentration
300
Explain how temperature affects the rate of a chemical reaction.
What is chemical reactions take place at a higher rate in higher temperatures OR chemical reactions take place at a lower rate in lower temperatures
300
Explain why random clues and items were involved in the experiment.
What is to try to throw a person off. Most would think that those objects would all be used. However, the most plausible explanation involves only a part of all the items and clues.
300
Explain how we knew a chemical reaction had occurred when the tablet hit the water.
What is because a new substance was formed by the tablet and the water
300
Explain how the mini lava lamp lab was differed from how a real lava lamp worked.
What is - In a real lava lamp, a heat source at the bottom heats the solution making it warmer and therefore less dense, which is why it floats to the top. The reason the bubbles floated to the top in the Mini lava lamp lab was because the gas bubbles attached to the solution bubbles and made them less dense.

What conclusions can you make about how concentration affects the rate of a chemical reaction?
What is the higher the concentration, the higher the rate of the chemical reaction OR the lower the concentration, the lower the rate of the chemical reaction
400
Explain how molecules act in higher temperatures.
What is they move more quickly, spread apart, and hit harder
400
Tell what a present day metallurgist thought of the magic trick.
What is - He said that would not be possible. The only way to even have the slightest chance of that happening would be to bombard it with electrons, which Mookie obivously couldn't have done.

The oil and water did not mix. Explain why they did not mix and why you know there was no chemical reaction.
What is they did not mix because the oil was less dense than the water. It is clear that there was no chemical reaction because no new substance was formed when we attempted to mix the two substances.

Name the lab that demonstrated that using higher concentrations in a lab creates a chemical reaction with a higher rate.
What is the concentration lab

Apply this to the real-world. Give examples of how this idea can be applied to real life situations.
What is - with more ice, a glass of water cools quicker - also it takes a shorter time for food dye to dissolve into water or another liquid if you put more of the food dye in. It takes much longer for 1 drop to completely dissolve and be equally spread throughout the solution than it does for 10 drops to
500
State some real-world applications of this experiment.
What is - when making hot chocolate, the cocoa powder dissolves at a quicker rate if you mix it into the heated water rather than mix it with the water before you heat it
500
Explain a plausible explanation for the experiment.
What is - The lead ball was covered in gold foil and then lead foil. The hydrochloric acid in the glass reacted with the lead foil, which formed the precipitate that sat at the bottom of the glass. The gold foil remained on the lead ball because it did not react with the hydrochloric acid. The gold foil over the ball made it appear to be made of solid gold.

Explain how and why the bubbles of the solution traveled to the top and then fell back down.
What is... The reaction between the water and Color Dotz created a gas that was less dense than the oil. It attached to the bubbles of the solution, giving it more volume without adding much mass. The bubbles of the solution were than overall less dense than the oil and floated to the top. However, at the top and the solution became denser than the oil again when the gas escaped and so it fell back down through the oil.

The concept explored in the Foam Gnome lab was exothermic reaction. Explain what exothermic reaction is.
What is a reaction that releases energy in the form of heat
