Our mother's at a meeting A
for some big, important deal, B
and couldn't be at home tonight C
to cook the evening meal. B
She left some short directions D
for my sister just to follow. E
Instead my sister cooked up things F
impossible to swallow. E
Like Brussels sprouts in vinegar G
and jellybeans in mustard, H
an onion-pickle pudding I
and a lemon-radish custard. H
She burned a stick of butter J
'til the house was filled with smoke, K
then fried a pound of pepper L
with a half an artichoke. K
She put a whole banana M
in the blender with a steak, N
then mixed it up with tunafish O
and baked it in a cake. N
She stirred some chocolate ice cream P
with garbanzo beans and bacon. Q
A single bite was all it took R
to leave me feeling shaken. Q
We should have ordered pizza S
but we didn't know, alas, T
my sister is the only kid U
who flunked her cooking class. T
