What is the first step to doing your laundry? A. Folding B. Sorting C. Washing
B. Sorting A red shirt with your undies will result in pink underwear. So, separating your loads will save you time and money in the long run.
100
Why do you need a hamper?
To put your dirty clothes into. Keep it in the bathroom or in your closet, close to where you take your clothes off.
100
What sorting category do socks, underwear, undershirts, kitchen towels, and t-shirts that are white fit into?
Whites - you're going to bleach these, so if your white t-shirt has a terrific colored cartoon on the front put it in "colored" clothes so your cartoon doesn't fade.

No matter how plain or fancy the buttons, washer decisions include:
Load size, temperature of your water and the length/strength of the wash.
100
What are the 6 steps to laundry?
Sorting, washing, drying, folding, ironing, putting away.
200
What is the second step in doing your laundry? A. Washing B. Ironing C. Drying
A. Washing Most clothes can go in the washer in cold, warm or hot water. A few need to be hand-washed; some need to be dry-cleaned. Look at the label when you buy a new piece of clothing if you don't want the extra work.
200
Why do you need a small (hand sized) basket next to the washer?
To store anything you find in your pockets before you wash them. Examples - wallet, cell phone, pens, chapstick.
200
What sorting category does towels, washcloths, bed sheets and comforters belong to?
Bulky/Linens This is all that big, bulky stuff that comes off your bed and your towels and washcloths. Keep it separate from everything else because it makes a lot of lint that can be hard to get off your jeans or sweaters.
200
White clothes are best washed in what temperature water?
Hot! Whites sit next to your body and get sweaty and smelly. Hot water sanitizes them and works well with bleach.
200
Why is it important to fold clothes as soon as the dryer stops?
So the clothes don't begin to wrinkle.
300
What is the third step to doing your laundry? A. Sorting B. Washing C. Drying
C. Drying Most machine-washable clothes can be thrown in the dryer. Dryer settings range from "delicate" to "heavy-duty." Some clothes need to be hung to dry; others need to be laid flat. Again, read the labels when you buy.
300
Why do you need a stain stick?
To treat any stains before washing your laundry.
300
What category does everything else fit into?
Colored Clothes This is everything else. If you have a lot, you can separate it into "light" colored clothes and "dark" colored clothes.
300
Towels/Linens are best washed in what temperature water?
Hot or warm. Like whites, these items pick up germs from being right next to your body. Hot or warm water sanitizes them.
300
Why should you look at a label when you're buying new clothes?
To see if cleaning instructions are difficult or expensive.
400
What is the last step to doing laundry? A. Folding B. Ironing C. Putting Away
C. Putting Away Folded clothes can still look messy if you leave them in a pile on your floor. Take a minute - put them away.
400
Why do you need a flat surface next to your dryer?
A flat surface is the best place to fold your clean laundry right after the clothes come out of the dryer.
400
What does "dry clean only" and "hand wash" mean?
Dry clean only - This means you must take the clothing to a dry cleaning store and let them clean it for you. Hand wash - This means you must use a special detergent and wash this piece of clothing in a sink by rubbing the cloth together then rinsing it in running water and wringing it out gently by hand. Usually these clothing items must then be hung to dry or laid flat to dry.
400
Colored clothes are best washed in what temperature water?
Cold. Cold water helps these clothes keep their colors so they don't fade and the colors don't run onto each other. It also keeps them from shrinking.
400
Why should you sort?
So colors don't run and ruin your clothes. Your clothes will last longer and look nicer.
500
What two steps haven't we discussed yet?
Folding and Ironing.
500
Why do we empty our pockets before washing our clothes?
To make sure our clothes don't get ruined by the items left in the pockets. (Chapstick)
500
Where can you find the "care" label at on your clothes?
Care labels are typically found sewn into the neck or side seams of clothes.
500
A large load of clothes fills how much of the washer tub?
2/3 of the tub. If you fill the tub all the way full, there is no room for soapy water to wash your clothes.
500
Why is it important to measure the laundry detergent?
Too much will make your clothes sticky and too little won't make your clothes clean.
