Why does the Common Science Programme only have 2 diplomas to choose from?
The School of Life Sciences and Chemical Technology offers a wide variety of science diplomas across subjects ranging from plant science to chemical engineering. However, for the Diploma in Biomedical Science and Diploma in Pharmaceutical Science, they both share common modules hence they are the only 2 diplomas to choose from.
The entry grade for Nursing is so high! Is this because Nursing is not a very good course?
Of course not! The entry grade for Nursing is high as there are high demands for nurses in the advancing healthcare industry.

Students enrolling into any of the following five diplomas may get to take a Second Major in Business. Diploma in Applied AI & Analytics (AAA), Diploma in Electrical Engineering (EE), Diploma in Electronic & Computer Engineering (ECE), Diploma in Information Technology (IT), Diploma in Mechatronics & Robotics (MR).
What is the Diploma in Film, Sound and Video about?
The Diploma in Film, Sound and Video allows students to gain a strong foundation in the artistic aspects like script writing, motion graphics as well as technical aspects like cinematography and post-production of filmmaking. Students will also have the opportunity to produce their own documentaries and short films for real clients.
What are the specialisations offered in the Diploma in Biomedical Science?
The Diploma in Biomedical Science offers 3 specialisations which are Medical Bioscience, Clinical Laboratory Science and Integrated Clinical Training Programme.
What will I learn in the Diploma in Optometry?
You will learn how to detect, diagnose and manage eye conditions, prescribe glasses and contact lenses. You will also be able to gain hands-on retail experience.
What is PLP? What do they offer?
PLP stands for Personalised Learning Pathway where you can graduate with a minor on top of your diploma. In NP there are 4 PLP pathways you can choose from: Social leadership, Global Readiness, Professional skills and Entrepreneurship, which offers 12 types of minors ranging from Applied Psychology, Global Readiness, and even foreign languages like Korean and Japanese.
What makes NP’s School of Film and Media Studies different from other media schools?
I cannot speak for other polytechnics as I am not a student there. However, Ngee Ann’s School of Film and Media Studies is the original media school in Singapore since 1989. We are highly regarded in the media industry with many notable alumni like 987 radio DJ Sonia Chew and award-winning film director Anthony Chen. We also have state of the art facilities like the M:idea Playground and video editing suites to ensure students are career-ready. Additionally, students have internship opportunities with Singapore Press Holdings, Local Radio stations and Mediacorp.
What will I learn in the Diploma in Environmental Science & Sustainability?
You’ll learn about environmental sustainability, sustainable water management, resource management and circularity, environmental management and pollution control. You will also gain practical skills through field trips and learning journeys.
What is the NP-SUTD pathway offered to the students in the Diploma in Design?
The NP-SUTD pathway allows students to fast track to degree programmes in Singapore University of Technology and Design. Students part of this programme will be able to graduate 1 year earlier than their peers. Students will also have the opportunity to experience working on cutting-edge research projects with SUTD professors and researchers as their mentors.
What are some overseas opportunities that NP offers?
We have the Overseas Immersion Programme(OIP) where students have the opportunity to experience life as a student in an overseas country and immerse in a new culture. We also have the Youth Expedition Programme(YEP) where students visit underserved communities in SEA countries to take part in projects, allowing the students to develop resilience while learning about the social problems that the society faces. We also have the Global Entrepreneurial Internship Programme (GEIP) where students can kickstart their entrepreneurial journey by working in some of the world’s top innovation hubs and start-up ecosystems in SouthEast Asia .

NP regularly reviews its curriculum to ensure that our courses are in line with industry needs hence we have the newly revamped Diploma in Stage and Live Events to meet the needs of the industry.
What is unique about the Diploma in Landscape Design and Horticulture?
It is the only polytechnic diploma in Singapore that combines training in landscape design together with plant science and horticulture, alongside a strong partnership with the National Parks Board.
What is the NP-NUS pathway in the Diploma in Hotel and Leisure Facilities Management?
The NP-NUS pathway allows students in the Diploma in Hotel and Leisure Facilities Management to fast-track their degree to NUS’ Infrastructure Project Management (IPM) degree and graduate earlier than their peers. It allows students to get a taste of university life and kickstart their journey towards infrastructure project management.
I want to start my own business, does NP have any opportunities to do so?
Yes we have many opportunities! As you may know, NP is the poly for budding entrepreneurs! Some initiatives that NP have includes the biannual Be Your Own Boss (BYOB) food and beverage competition where students get $5000 in funding and a spot in campus to run their own food and beverage stalls. We also have makers academy where NP students can develop their prototypes using 3D machines, sewing machines and many more. There is also staff that offers mentoring to assist in creating your prototype and all of these are free of charge for NP students.
