To determine what the direct object is you can ask yourself what is being received by the indirect object

Example: Sally sold Jim tickets to her school play

To determine the indirect object, you can ask yourself who or what receives the direct object
So identify the indirect object in this sentence:
He told his parents a lie
The correct answer is *Parents*
Example: He ran to her
the answer would be *Her* because she is receiving the action (Running) made by the boy
