1.How many days of lent are there and why (give 2 reasons)?

2. Which days are excluded?

1.There are 40 days of Lent.

Jesus fasted for 40 days, and Lent mirrors this period of preparation.

The number 40 is significant in the Bible as a time of trial, testing, and preparation. For example, the Israelites wandered in the desert for 40 years before entering the Promised Land (Exodus 16:35), and Moses fasted for 40 days before receiving the Ten Commandments (Exodus 34:28).

2.Sundays are "feast days" and are seen as mini-celebrations of Easter, which is why they are not counted as days of fasting. If you subtract the six Sundays in Lent, it gives you exactly 40 days of fasting and penance.
