What are primary lesions?
Characterized by piles of material on the skin surface, such as a crust or scab, or by depressions in the skin surface, such as an ulcer
What is a Secondary Lesion?
Typically vascular
What are Tertiary Lesions?
An inflammatory skin disorder of the sebaceous glands. Characterized by excess sebum production
What is acne?
A pink or flesh-colored precancerous lesion that feels sharp or rough and is a result of sun damage
What is an Actinic Keratosis?
A small elevation on the skin that contains no fluid, but may develop pus
What is a Papule?
Skin sore or abrasion produced by scratching or scraping
What is an Excoriation?
Visible capillaries that are commonly found on the face, particularly around the nose, cheeks, and chin
What are Telangiectasias?
A non-inflamed build-up of cells, sebum, and other debris inside follicles
What is a comedo?
Small brownish spot on the skin ranging in color from pale tan to brown or bluish black
What is a normal mole?
Abnormal mass varying in size, shape, and color. Any type of abnormal mass, not always cancer. Requires medical referral
What is a Tumor?
A thick scar resulting from excessive growth of fibrous tissue
What is a Keloid?
Inflammatory and vascular disorder with multiple causes that are not completely understood. Characterized by skin flushing, visible vessels, and skin sensitivity. Can also be accompanied by pustular-like breakouts
What is Rosacea?
Small epidermal cysts that appear as firm white papules
What is Milia?
Most common and least severe type of skin cancer, which often appears as light, pearly nodules. Characteristics include sores, reddish patches, or a smooth growth with an elevated border
What is Basal Cell Carcinoma?
Flat spot or discoloration on the skin
What is a Macule?
Crack in the skin that penetrates the dermis
What is a Fissure?
Skin thickening due to rosacea, particularly around the nose
What is Rhinophyma?
Red and inflamed lesions; many comedones, papules, and pustules
What is Grade III Acne?
More serious skin cancer. Characterized by scaly red or pink papules or nodules. Also appears as open sores or crusty areas
What is Squamous Cell Carcinoma?
Small blister or sac containing clear fluid, lying within or just beneath the epidermis. Requires medical referral if cause is unknown or untreatable with over-the-counter products
What is a Vesicle?
Open lesion on the skin or mucous membrane of the body; accompanied by loss of skin depth and possible weeping of fluids or pus
What is an Ulcer?
Visible vascularity that are abnormally dilated and twisted veins that can occur anywhere in the body
What are Varicose Veins?
Benign lesions frequently seen in oilier areas of the face. Doughnut-shaped with an indentation in the center
What is Sebaceous Hyperplasia?
Most serious form of skin cancer as it can spread quickly (metastasize); black or dark patches on the skin are usually uneven in texture, jagged, or raised. May have surface crust and/or bleed. 100% fatal if left untreated.
