What are the 4 layers of the Earth?

Crust, Mantle, Inner core, Outer core

100

Name 1 type of plate boundary and explain what it means.

Transform, convergent, divergent

(Teacher's discretion for explanation)
100

What are the the three types of rocks?

Igneous, Sedimentary, Metamorphic
100
How many Landform Regions are there in Canada?

7

100

What does the R in LOWERN stand for?

Relief (of mountains)

100

What flag is this? 🇧🇦

Bosnia and Herzegovina

200

What Era is known as the age of reptiles?

Mesozoic

200

What is the supercontinent that existed 245 million years ago?

Pangaea

200

What is an example of a Metamorphic rock?

Gniess, Marble, Quartzite, Slate,

200

Name the 4 Soil Regions in Canada.

Dry Climate soils, Wet Climate soils, Grasslands, Complex Soils of Mountain Areas.

200

What is the difference between weather and climate?

Weather: Day to day atmospheric conditions (Weather conditions when you look outside)

Climate: The long term pattern of weather (what you expect a place to be)

200

What country does this flag belong to? 🇳🇬

Nigeria

300

In what Era do humans appear on the Earth?

Cenozoic

300

When plate tectonics move, what do they create?

When they move, they create geological features (mountains, waterways, volcanoes, valleys, etc.)

300

Explain the difference between Intrusive Igneous rocks and Extrusive Igneous rocks.

  • Intrusive Igneous rocks: form from Molten rock that has cooled under the surface of the Earth’s crust. Magma cools slowly so intrusive igneous rocks have larger crystals

  • Extrusive Igneous rocks: form from Molten rock that cools on the Earth's surface (land). Lava cools rapidly on the surface which generally does not allow minerals to form

300

What are the Interior Plains also known as?

"Bread Basket" or "Prairies"

300

What is the cool or wet side of a mountain (relief) called?

Windward side

300

What country does this flag belong to? 🇰🇳

St. Kitts and Nevis

400

What body part roughly represents the amount of time that humans have been around on the earth?

The tip of you nail.

400

What is the theory of continental drift?

The Earth’s physical appearance continues to change and will do so in the future.

400

Explain the process of a Igneous rock changing into a Sedimentary rock.

Weathering and erosion create sediments. The sediments are then compressed and cemented together to create a Sedimentary rock.

400

What Vegetation Region does not support tree growth? Why?

Tundra. This is because it is located above the treeline meaning the ground is permafrost.

400

Why does Saskatchewan have a larger temperature range compared to British Columbia?

Saskatchewan has a larger temperature range compared to British Columbia because they are not near a large body of water like BC is. As BC is near the pacific ocean, and water heats and cools the land more slowly, meaning that BC has cooler summers and more mild winters, where as SK has cold winters and hot summers because they are not near water.

400

What country does this flag belong to? 🇲🇷

Mauritania

500

What is the correct order for the geological eras?

  1. Cenozoic, Mesozoic, Paleozoic, Precambrian

  2. Precambrian, Mesozoic, Paleozoic, Cenozoic

  3. Precambrian, Paleozoic, Mesozoic, Cenozoic

  4. Mesozoic, Cenozoic, Precambrian, Paleozoic

3. Precambrian, Paleozoic, Mesozoic, Cenozoic

500

What are the 4 reasons Alfred Wegener believed that the continents were all once together?

1. South America and Africa fit like jigsaw puzzle pieces.

2. Fossils of the same plants and animals are found on separated continents.

3. Appalachian Mountains and Caledonian Mountains are similar in age and structure.

4. Ice sheets covered countries that are now in warmer climates.

500

What type of rock has fossils? Please give an example of this type of rock.

Sedimentary.

ie. Sandstone, Limestone, Conglomerate

500

What mountains are located in the Western Cordillera?

The Rocky Mountains

500

Complete this question (you have 45 seconds after I finish reading the question)

If you are at the bottom of a 2000m tall mountain where the temperature is 18 degrees. What would the temperature at the top of the mountain be?

2000/100 = 20 degrees

18 degrees - 20 degrees = -2 degrees

Therefore the temperature at the top of the mountain is -2 degrees celsius.
