You walk into your favorite convenience store or gas station and are excited to see the clerks.  You can't wait to tell them all about your weekend and the fun you had!  The clerks are busy helping other customers, but that's ok!  You begin telling them your story anyways.

Inappropriate:  Clerks, librarians and cashiers are all working when we see them.  If they are helping other customers, we can quickly say hello and then need to wait until it is our turn in line before speaking to them.  If the store is busy, we should be considerate of those behind us by purchasing our items and leaving so that we don't slow down business and cause stress for the employees.
