Whereas the AFHS high school mascot is a "Patriot," the middle school mascot is this type of horse who is known for bravely carrying the Patriot into battle.

Even though Mr. M teaches Spanish, his favorite food comes from this geographical area that spans southern Europe and Northern Africa.

Our school's name comes from two communities: Apex and this unincorporated town whose name describes the peaceful union of recently emancipated slaves after the Civil War, Native Americans, and white merchants/farmers.
