What is Fenwick Library?
The place to check out, renew, or return library materials. There is one at each of the Libraries.
What is an information desk?
Textbooks professors require all students enrolled in a class to use that are only allowed to be checked out for 2 hours at a time. This collection is in the Gateway Library.
What are Text Select Course Reserves?
A brief summary of the main points in a book, article, or other work.
What is an abstract?
The Robertson Library on this campus was named after Thomas Logan Robertson - the man who was the driving force behind the 1966 establishment of the Western Australia Institute of Technology, which later became Curtin University of Technology.
What is the Bentley campus?
Library located in the Johnson Center on the Fairfax campus. Houses the campus' Text Select program.
What is Gateway Library?
A type of librarian who helps students and faculty find information relevant to their research.
Who is a reference (or subject) librarian?
Unique sequence of letters and numbers assigned to each item in the library to indicate subject content and shelf location. Mason uses the Library of Congress system.
What are call numbers?
The information needed to track down a book, article, or other work. Forgetting this in an essay could mean plagiarism.
What is a citation?
These can be reserved for a maximum of two hours per day.
What are group study rooms?
On the second floor of Founder's Hall on the Arlington campus, this library holds the collections for the graduate programs in SSPG, SCAR, and Arts Management.
What is Arlington Library?
The part of the library which houses the physical collection. Books and periodicals are arranged on shelves of these. Up until recently, the second floor of the Johnson Center was filled with them.
What are stacks?
A list of records that represent the holdings of a library or group of libraries. This used to be in paper format but is now entirely online.
What is a catalog?
A catalog that searches research libraries in the Washington, DC area that students can request from.
What is the Washington Research Library Consortium (WRLC)?
These processes cost $.11 AUD for black and white and $.30 AUD for color.

What is the Mason Innovation Exchange?
Movable shelving units which can be closely packed when access is not required, and easily moved to open an aisle to allow access.
What is compact shelving?
A periodical containing articles on specialized topics, written by researchers or scholars. They generally include abstracts and bibliographies.
What is a journal?
A video recording studio that requires no previous video production knowledge to use.
What is the OneButton Studio?
Undergraduate students may do this for a maximum of 30 items for six weeks at a time.
What is borrow them?
Located on the Science and Technology Campus in Manassas, this library specializes in Health and Fitness, Tourism, Biodefense, Bioinformatics, and Computer Science.
What is Mercer Library?
A service in which books and articles not available at Mason can be obtained elsewhere.
What is interlibrary loan?
An organized collection of journals and articles; usually organized by subject. Examples include JSTOR and ProQuest.
What is a database?
These types of library spaces may be reserved once a day for up to 4 hours per day.
What are study rooms?
The makerspace, a physical space used to create and learn through practical, hands on experiences, hosts events and workshops similar to this space on the Fairfax campus.
What is the MIX?
