When you have a nonfiction book with letters and numbers in the call number, which comes first when sorting them on the bookshelves: the letters or the numbers?

You sort by the numbers first, and then by the letters. This means you find the books that match the number exactly (with all the decimal points) and then you sort them alphabetically.
