Where can I sit at the kiva for story time?

On a spot on the steps or criss cross applesauce on the green carpet. Not on the wood behind the steps, not on any part of the carpet, and not on the reading chairs.

When can you sit in the reading chairs?

During your reading/check-out time. If you sit in the chair when you are supposed to be sitting on a spot at the kiva or on the carpet, you lose the privilege for your check-out day.

What does the E on a books call number (sticker on the spine) tell me?

The book goes in the easy fiction section.

You are putting a book back in the library.

Read! You must have a book and be reading (not talking) or I will ask you to get out. You also need to be reading if you are waiting to sit in a chair.

Where is the library it goes (top part) and where in the alphabet it goes (bottom part, author's last name)

You cannot check out any more books until it is returned.

What voice level do we use at the kiva (and the rest of the library)?

Voice level 0 when the teacher or someone she has called on is talking.

Voice level 1 (whisper) when we are waiting to get started or asking a friend for help.

How long can someone sit in the chair?

As long as they want. Some classes have determined their own rules. If they sit in it the whole time though, they shouldn't sit in it again for a month or two so others can have a turn.

How do we enter and exit the kiva?

We walk quietly through the archway to a spot. We don't not stand on, jump on, or hop over the steps of the kiva.

If you get out of the chair, what happens? 

Someone else can sit there. Our spot is not saved unless the teacher needed to talk to them.

What is the book drop and where is it located?

It is the hole in Mrs. Powner's counter. You put books you want to return inside when it is not your normal check-out time.
