List the four things that all living things need to survive.
food, water, a place to live, air
200
A type of scientific test that looks for cause and affect (or to see if there is a relationship between the independent and dependent variable)
experiment

What are the names of the kingdoms that only has producers?
plantae

Name one of the languages for scientific names
Greek or Latin

List three rules we follow when using the microscopes.
Carry with two hands. Clean lenses with lense paper. Don't use coarse adjustment on high power. Be calm. Keep it in the middle of your desk.

To be able to pass on traits from parents to offspring, all living things have ______ inside their cells.
DNA

Two words, genus and species Genus starts with a capital letter Have to underlined or italicized In Greek or Latin

What is the difference between an inference and an observation?
An observation is something you notice with your senses (so you know it's true). An inference is an explanation of what you observe, so it may or may not be true.

When a plant is turned upside down and it begins growing back up, this is an example of what characteristic of life?
Living things sense and respond to change.
400
What is the difference between an independent and a dependent variable?
The scientist changes the independent variable and then measures the dependent variable to see if it changes.
400
If an organism has eukaryotic cells, is a decomposer, and can't move on its own, what kingdom would it belong to?
Fungi (though you could also argue protista)

Carolus Linnaeus founded the science of identifying, classifying, and naming all things. What is this science called?
Taxonomy

Name 5 of the parts of the microscope.

Describe two differences between sexual and asexual reproduction AND explain which type most plants have.
Sexual reproduction has two parents, asexual reproduction has only one. In sexual reproduction the offspring have a combination of traits/DNA from the parents, but in asexual reproduction the offspring is identical to the parent. Most plants have sexual reproduction.

List the 4 guidelines for a fair test.
-Compare outcomes between groups. -Have only one independent variable. -Have the largest possible sample size. -Control all other variables- keep everything the same between groups except the independent variable you want to test.

Why is protista considered the "junk drawer" kingdom?
Because it has all the organisms that don't fit into any other kingdom.
