What do you do with incident and medical reports?

All forms and records must be forwarded to the Recreation Director at the end of each week. These reports and logs can be dropped off at Town Hall before closing on Fridays or slipped through the slot on the door to the left of the building following the close of the lake.

What should you grab when you first clock in for your shift

first aid kit, headboard, AED and any other needed materials for the day; all supplies located in closet.

what time is the water cleared?

Water should be cleared at 11:00am, 1:00pm and 3:00pm for 10-minute breaks and to check the surroundings

when are staff schedules done

All schedules will be done by the Head Lifeguard a minimum of two weeks in advance. We will do our best to schedule one month at a time

Smoking will be prohibited on town property during the hours that lake is open and you are scheduled to work

what is the break policy when there is only 2 people on

When only two lifeguards are on, you are not allowed to leave hearing distance of the beach.

How Often will staff evaluations take place?

At least twice a summer

Staff are evaluated on their performances regularly throughout the summer as well as at the end of the summer. These evaluations are done by your immediate supervisors and will be gone through with you as the employee.

How Often are drills done?

Every other week lifeguards are responsible for performing drills when on duty. These drills will be performed and signed off on by the Head Lifeguard. Each guard should be participating in a minimum of three drills weekly while rotating the drills throughout the summer

Who's responsibility is it to get coverage for your shift

yours; You will need to fill out the appropriate substitution form and submit this to the head lifeguard/recreation director as soon as possible for approval before the date is granted. Substitution and requesting time off forms filled out less than two weeks before the date requested will not be granted

injuries/ incidents

All our lifeguards are trained with the appropriate level of First Aid and CPR. If an illness or injury takes place incident reports should be filled out and signed immediately by staff and parent/guardian or witness. The same protocol should apply to injuries involving staff.

closing duties

Once cleared, put all equipment back in the closet for the night and fill out your time sheet for that day. If holes have been dug, fill them back in and clean up any trash left behind on the beach.

Thunder/ lightening/ bad weather policy

Inclement Weather- The park will not always close for inclement weather, you should report to work each day unless you hear otherwise from the Head Lifeguard. You will take your stand at the lifeguard chair as any other day unless you are told otherwise.

Thunder- if thunder is heard the water must be cleared and no one can return to the water for a minimum of 30 minutes without thunder.

Lighting- If lightning is seen the water as well as the beach area must be cleared, everyone can evacuate to their vehicles in the parking lot and will be allowed back in the beach area when there is a minimum of 30 minutes without lightning.

Cell phone usage

Staff should not be seen with a cell phone at any time, they should be left in a bag or your vehicle for the day. In case of an emergency, you will be allowed to take your cell phone out to

call 911 or appropriate number. The Recreation Director can always be contacted in the office OR by cell phone.

Who collects timesheets at the end of the week

You will receive payment on a biweekly schedule; time sheets are to be filled out and turned into Maintenance staff weekly, the head guard will look over timesheets to make sure they are filled out correctly.

How many extra guards are scheduled for pavilion rentals or camps?

On days when the pavilion is rented or a camp is visiting, staff will be notified well in advance and an additional Lifeguard will be staffed for this day.

It is up to the additional lifeguard on duty these days to meet the pavilion renters/ school busses as they arrive, introduce yourself and let them know if they need anything throughout the day to find one of the guards on duty.
