The transport of energy without the transport of matter.
What is Waves.
Waves that require a medium. These waves travel when molecules in the medium collide with each other passing on energy.
What is Mechanical Waves.
The distance from crest to crest, or between any two adjacent corresponding points.
What is Wavelength.
This contains specialized cells that respond to light. Some of these cells send signals through the optic nerve to the brain.
What is the Retina.
These lenses spread out the rays of light before they enter the eye.
What is a Concave Lens.
A substance that allows waves to move.
What is a Medium.
Waves where the particles of the medium vibrate in a parallel direction, which energy transport.
What is Longitudinal Waves.
The highest point (top) of the wave. The point of maximum upward displacement from rest position.
What is the Crest.
A circular opening that controls how much light enters the eye.
What is a Pupil.
These lenses bend the light rays inward before they enter the eye.
What is a Convex Lens
How often a wave occurs or the number of waves that pass in a given amount of time.
What is Frequency.
Waves where the disturbance moves perpendicular to the flow of energy. You can think of the wave moving left to right, while the disturbance moves up and down.
What is Transverse Waves.
The lowest part (bottom) of the wave. The point of maximum downward displacement from the rest position.
What is the Trough.
This opens and closes to change the size of the pupil.
What is the Iris.
This occurs when the lens of the eye focuses an objects image behind the retina.
What is a Farsighted Eye.
The maximum height or distance moved by a point on a wave from it's equilibrium (rest) position.
What is Amplitude.
A central part of the theory of quantum. This wave is made of atoms.
What is Matter Waves.
The highest point (top) of the wave. The point of maximum upward displacement from rest position.
What is the Crest.
A transparent membrane that covers the eye. This acts as a convex lens and does most of the refracting in the eye.
What is the Cornea.
This occurs whens the lens of the eye focuses on the image in front of the retina.
What is a Nearsighted Eye.
A substance that allows waves to move.
What is a Medium.
This wave is at a 90 degree angle. It is believed to travel in a circular motion.
What is surface waves.
What is Wavelength.
This is a convex on both sides. It refracts light to make fine adjustments for near and far objects.
What is the Lens.
This is a corrective lens that fits directly onto the cornea. These lenses actually float on a thin layer of tears.
What is a Contact Lens.
