100

What does light do when it encounters a transparent material?

It passes through.

100

Define transmit.

Transmit - goes through.

100

What is a one-way mirror?

A special kind of mirror that lets people see through it from one side, but not from the other side.

100

Why can materials cause different amounts of light to transmit or reflect through it?

A material can have different structures, specifically at the microscale level.

200

How does light travel from a light source?

Light travels in a straight line.

200

Define reflect.

Reflect - bounces off.

200

How is a one-way mirror represented in a model?

See drawing on wall.

200

If you need help during the test, what should you do?

Look around the room and see if there's a poster to help you answer your question!

300

What kind of path does light follow?

A straight path.

300

Define light source.

Light source - something that makes light, like the sun, a lamp, or a flashlight. It's what helps us see things!

300

What did we learn about the one-way mirror in the light investigation?

It transmits about half the light and reflects half the light?

300

What is important to include in a model?

A key.

400

What happens to light when it hits a surface it cannot pass through?

It is reflected.

400

Define silvering.

Silvering - adding a thin layer of shiny metal, like silver, to the back of a mirror to make it reflect light. It's what makes mirrors magic!

400

What is in a one-way mirror?

It contains a thin coat of silver material (half-silvered), which means there are gaps in the silver layer. Some of the light reflects off the silver parts but some of the light transmits through the places without silver.

400
Create a model to explain how light interacts with glass.

See wall poster.

500

How does one see an object?

For us to see an object, light must leave the light source, bounce off the object, and travel in a direct path to enter our eyes.

500

Define transparent.

Transparent - when you can see through something clearly, like a window or a piece of glass.

500

Draw a model of a one-way mirror and show how it interacts with the light.

See picture on wall.

500

Create a model to explain how light interacts with a mirror.

See wall poster.
