Why was TWP created?

TWP was created in 1987 in response to state-mandated racial integration of the Mystic Public Housing development. There was an influx of immigrants at the time in Somerville. People were met with racism and xenophobia. TWP was created to bridge the gap between communities, educate the public, and provide services to new arrivals.
