More trash is thrown away in the United States than in any other country. Each American throws away about 4.3 pounds of trash per day. A piece of paper takes about four weeks to break down. If someone throws an aluminum can away, the can can take 500 years to break down. A glass bottle takes up to one million years to break down. Because of this, the fact that landfills in the U.S. are filling up is not a surprise. More than half of the landfills could be filled up within the next 10 years. People need to come up with a plan for what to do with America’s trash. The problem Americans face is having too much trash but not enough room for it. Burning the trash is one thing people can do. This reduces the amount of room trash takes up. Sometimes, trash is used to make energy. One ton of trash makes the same amount of energy as 900 pounds of coal or 73 gallons of oil. Selling this energy can pay for some of the costs of running a plant. The best thing people can do is recycle. By reusing paper, plastic, and glass, people will not have to worry about trash going to the landfill! How is the text above organized? A. Problem/Solution B. Chronological Order C. Cause/Effect
What is A. Problem/Solution
